Senior Bookkeeper (Fractional / Part-Time) — Private Operating Foundation
About the role
Our private foundation seeks to advance human flourishing through education, cultural access, and well-being. We are seeking a detail-driven Senior Bookkeeper on a fractional, part-time basis. This is a high-trust role with direct exposure to the foundation's principals.
We operate more like an early-stage venture studio and tech incubator rather than like a traditional grant maker — strategy-focused, lean, agile, builder-oriented, and mission-driven. You will bring order, accuracy, and clear financial visibility to an organization that values precision and discretion.
What you'll work on
- Full-cycle bookkeeping: AP/AR, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end reporting
- General ledger integrity and chart-of-accounts maintenance
- Monthly and quarterly financial statements, budget-to-actual reporting, and cash-flow tracking
- Program and disbursement tracking, including documentation for restricted vs. unrestricted activity
- Coordination of Form 990-PF preparation with outside CPAs and auditors
- Vendor management, contractor processing, and expense oversight
- Recordkeeping and audit-readiness consistent with private foundation compliance (minimum distribution, self-dealing, excise tax awareness)
What you bring
- 5+ years in bookkeeping or accounting; nonprofit or foundation experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of private foundation rules and Form 990-PF (or demonstrated ability to ramp quickly)
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
- Some proficiency in AI (we are prepared to teach and upskill)
- Exceptional discretion and comfort handling confidential financial information
- Bachelor's in accounting or finance preferred; CPA a plus but not required
