SEASONAL PART-TIME PUBLIC INFORMATION ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Positions Available: One (1)

$10.00-$11.25 per hour- GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES- The City of San Benito is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable individual to serve as a Seasonal Part-Time Public Information Administrative Assistant. This position will provide support in gathering and responding to public information requests in compliance with the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), as well as perform general administrative duties to assist with departmental operations. This role offers valuable experience in municipal government and public records management.

Duties Include, But Not Limited To, The Following:

  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work
  • Performs after work hours as required (nights and weekends)
  • Receive, log, and track incoming public information requests.
  • Assist in compiling, organizing, and reviewing responsive records.
  • Draft routine correspondence related to requests.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical records in accordance with retention schedules.
  • Perform data entry, document scanning, filing, and related clerical tasks.
  • Answer phone calls and emails professionally, directing inquiries to appropriate staff as needed.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education And Experience

  • Minimum High School graduate or GED with some college hours
  • Bilingual
  • Able to deliver excellent customer service, externally and internally
  • Previous experience in an administrative or clerical role preferred.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the Texas Public Information Act.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer use
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Have a maintain a valid Texas Driver License and an acceptable driving record
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions And Physical Capabilities:

  • Work is typically performed in a standard office environment.
  • Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, use a computer, and lift light office materials (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Occasional interaction with members of the public, city staff, and elected officials.

CONFIDENTIALITY REQUIREMENT:

Due to the sensitive nature of information handled in this role, the selected applicant will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) as a condition of employment. This agreement ensures that all confidential, privileged, or non-public information accessed or processed in the course of duties is protected and not disclosed without proper authorization, in accordance with City policy and applicable state laws.
