Director for the South Sumter Resource Center
Salary Range: $50,000-55,000
Examples of Work Performed: Leads operations and strategic growth for South Sumter Resource Center, which provides multi- services to the Sumter community. Plans, supervises and directs the activities of the South Sumter Resource Center (SSRC) to ensure the proper provision of effective and efficient services for the Center. Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state and federal requirements; prepares and manages annual budget. Manage separate, dedicated budgets for programs funded by external grants or private donations. Performs day-to-day duties that will include, but are not limited to, coordination of the SSRC’s programmatic activities, on-site liaison for building partners and tenants; facilitate regular partner meetings to align with services, resolve operational friction, and foster collaboration. Serves as the sole on-site point of contact for building maintenance issues; identify center’s needs and concerns, compile requests from tenant organizations, and formally route work orders to the County’s Facility Manager Office. Track requests of all work orders to ensure timely resolution. Works with various local community-based programs and projects. Establish and maintain strong partnerships with local non-profits, school district, businesses, and healthcare providers to co-locate or expand services. Conduct ongoing needs assessments to ensure SSRC programs align with changing resident needs. Act as primary spokesperson for the center, promoting its services at community events, board meetings, and public forums. Research, write, and submit high- quality grant proposals to state, federal, and private entities to secure continuation, and new funding streams. Develop operational plans to hire and onboard additional personnel as new grant funding is approved. Ensure strict adherence to all grant requirements, reporting deadlines, and performance metrics. Supervise, evaluate, and support staff, fostering a collaborative team environment. Ensure the safe and effective delivery of all programs and initiatives at the SSRC. Oversee daily center operations, ensuring a welcoming, safe, and accessible environment for all community members. Reports to the Assistant County Administrator of Operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Exceptional relationship- building skills with a diverse range of stakeholders, from residents to corporate partners and elected officials. Excellent public speaking, persuasive writing, and reporting skills. Ability to effectively run a small department while simultaneously planning for the department’s growth. Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the SSRC as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Director. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Is able to ensure departmental compliance with all laws and regulations and control the activities of the department through effective supervision. Has thorough knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies. Has considerable knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of County and other governmental agencies. Understands how to apply supervisory and managerial concepts and principles. Has the ability to offer training and assistance to subordinates and employees of other departments when required. Has the ability to offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding departmental policies, methods and regulations. Skilled in the care and use of a variety of office machinery including computers, calculators, copiers, printers, etc. Has the ability to use various software including spreadsheets, word processing, etc. Has the ability to gather accurate information and to prepare reports, budget documents, forms, correspondence, etc. with accuracy and in a timely manner. Has the ability to use independent judgment as needed in performing routine and non-routine tasks. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to read and interpret materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology and various professional languages used within the department. Ability to maintain effective relationships with department personnel, and personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation. Extreme tact, poise and diplomacy are required when dealing with departments and the public. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations. Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Has good organizational, technical and human relations skills. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or mathematical form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situation. Requires the ability to learn and understand principles and techniques; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Is able to compile, organize and utilize various financial information necessary in the preparation of the departmental budget, and knows how to prepare and monitor the budget.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Sociology, Non- Profit Management or other related field, supplemented by 3+ years of experience in community services, local government, or non-profit leadership. Demonstrated success in writing winning grant proposals and managing grant- funded project budgets.

- Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
- Successful completion of background investigation and pre-employment screening as required by County policy.
