Compensation: Monthly stipend of $750–$1,500 (depending on commitment and degree level); academic credit available

About Kidsave

Kidsave is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for older children in foster care within the United States and orphans worldwide. Through innovative family placement and mentoring programs, we collaborate with government agencies, child welfare professionals, and policymakers to drive meaningful change in child welfare systems globally.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Intern to support our efforts in analyzing child welfare systems, policy reform, and underserved communities. This role is ideal for graduate students interested in nonprofit research, social policy, and child welfare.

Responsibilities

As a Research Intern, you will contribute to Kidsave’s mission by conducting research and providing analytical support. Your key responsibilities will include:

Conducting in-depth research on current state and federal child welfare policies.

Examining policy areas within the child welfare system that contribute to racial and ethnic disparities, as well as systemic barriers that impact LGBTQ+ youth.

Gathering information through both primary and secondary research methods.

Compiling, synthesizing, and presenting findings for internal and external stakeholders.

Contributing to reports, policy briefs, and proposals.

Assisting with information management and data organization to support ongoing and future expansion projects.

Through this internship, you will gain:

A deeper understanding of child welfare policies and systems.

Hands-on experience in nonprofit research and administration.

Exposure to methodologies used in social impact research.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within six months of the internship start date) from a Master’s or Ph.D. program in Social Work, Sociology, Public Policy, or a related field.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong analytical, editing, and proofreading skills with keen attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with social science research methods, including data collection and analysis.

Prior experience conducting research on child welfare, nonprofit effectiveness, or policy-related topics.

Previous experience or knowledge of the U.S. foster care system, including its policies, challenges, and reform efforts.
