Position Overview
The Repairs Apprentice will be joining colleagues dedicated to the organization’s mission and an
environment where teamwork thrives. The Repairs Apprentice is responsible for assisting the Repairs
Manager in Habitat for Humanity’s home repair projects. These repairs are performed by the Repairs
Manager, volunteers, and/or paid contractors; therefore, the ability to work effectively with a diverse
group of individuals is required. The Repairs Apprentice will interact with volunteers, Habitat partner
families, inspectors and subcontractors.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position (40 hours per week), with a normal weekly work schedule of
Monday – Friday with the ability to work some weekends.
Responsibilities and Duties
Completes basic construction labor tasks as instructed by, and under the supervision of, the lead on site
Digging footings
Pouring concrete
Loading and moving materials
Site clean up
Completes basic carpentry tasks with increasing difficulty and independence as skill allows
Cutting and installation of framing and trim members
Strategic demolition
Assists in the maintenance of work sites, vehicles, tools, workshop and program organizational systems
Cultivates positive relationships with homeowners and crew members
Qualifications and Requirements
Desire to advance trades knowledge and skills, becoming a Repair Carpenter
Ability to perform basic construction math calculations
Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions
Ability and willingness to work on ladders, scaffolding, and roofs, and in attics and crawl spaces
Ability and willingness to operate construction vehicles
Ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced work environment
Ability and willingness to lead volunteers
Physical requirements necessary to perform this job:
Ability to adequately traverse a residential construction job site (i.e.- climbing, lifting, carrying a
minimum of 75 lbs., and other similar activities as required)
Ability to safely use residential construction power tools
Ability to safely operate a construction vehicle (pickup truck or similar)
A current and valid NC drivers license
