Our mission is to lead a community of compassionate and educated dog parents to reduce the number of surrendered or abandoned dogs. ADS’s purpose is to support dog parents so that they never feel the need to give up their dog. Our goal is a world where every dog has a loving forever home.
Role Description: Volunteer Remote Midwest Board Member
As a valued Board Member of the American Dog Society, you will take on a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organization. Your responsibilities will include actively participating in regular meetings, providing strategic guidance, and contributing to key decision-making processes. You will work closely with fellow board members to develop and implement policies, programs, and initiatives that align with our mission.
Given the rapid growth of our charity, your expertise will be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals. This role may require hands-on contributions as we leverage your experience to drive our success and further our cause.
Financial Commitment and Fundraising Responsibilities
Each board member is expected to make a one-time donation of at least $1,000 upon joining as a regional board member ($2,000 for national board members).
Additionally, each board member is expected to raise at least $1,000 annually through personal efforts, leveraging their network and resources to support the organization’s financial goals.
Current Status
9 regional boards and a national board with a current total of 55 people.
Officer/Director vs Standard Board Member
The board member can choose to be an officer/director of the organization to have an active day-to-day role or they can be a standard board member that is more advice, guidance, and governance. Although, as mentioned above, some work will be required.
Qualifications
Experience in nonprofit governance or board leadership
Knowledge of animal welfare or advocacy
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team
Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
Commitment to our mission and values
Experience with fundraising or grant writing is a plus
