Job Description
This employment opportunity is open to suitably qualified applicants with at least 3- 5 years of social work and counselling experience and fluent in English and/or Afrikaans / Isi-Xhosa. Parenting experience will be an advantage.
- This post is a fixed-term contract for 7 months, as part of this years pilot, with the possibility of a 1 to 3-year extension.
- The post is funding dependant.
- Only applicants in Cape Town or available to start by 1 June 2026.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Research and Map the adoption and foster sector in Cape Town and the Western Cape for a pilot offering capacity development, training, and support to parents, stakeholders, and children.
- Assistance in adapting and developing materials and interventions for the focused beneficiaries of the intervention.
- Training in Positive Parenting and Counselling for parents and caregivers in Wynberg and elsewhere, where needed.
- Assistance with follow-up procedures and coordination of the intervention. This follow-up will include involvement in the Monitoring and Evaluation processes.
- Additional duties include marketing the adoption and fostering intervention services, responding to media requests, presenting parenting talks and facilitating parenting training.
- Additional duties may include helping the PACES programme with events, training courses, and M&E processes as needed.
Qualifications And Requirements
Required:
- Registered with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP)
- At least 3-5 years of working experience in the social work field which should include experience in counselling families and adults.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of child development, and family stages of development and support.
- Computer skilled (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- A valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of The Children’s Act and the adoption / foster sector will be an advantage.
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences, a professional demeanour, the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, and the ability to work in a team will help secure this position.
