Program Coordinator & Business Mentor
Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week | $19.00–$20.00/hour
We are looking for a dependable, organized, and creative person to join our nonprofit team supporting programs for individuals with disabilities.
This is a 40-hour-per-week position split between two roles:
- Program Coordinator – 34 hours/week at $19.00/hour
- Business Mentor – 6 hours/week at $20.00/hour
The majority of your week will be spent coordinating our Same As You (S.A.Y.) and Vote! Project programs. You will also spend approximately six hours each week supporting an individual with disabilities who operates a small art business.
What You’ll Do
S.A.Y. & Vote! Program Coordinator
The Same As You (S.A.Y.) Program provides presentations at schools, after-school programs, and community organizations focused on bullying prevention and disability awareness.
The Vote! Project helps individuals with disabilities learn about voting rights and civic participation.
Both programs are presented by individuals with disabilities. As the Program Coordinator, you will help our presenters be successful by coordinating schedules, providing transportation and support, maintaining materials, and communicating with community partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Scheduling presentations with schools, day programs, after-school programs, and community organizations
- Transporting employees to and from presentations using your personal vehicle or the company van
- Attending presentations and providing support to presenters as needed
- Updating and organizing presentation materials
- Communicating with employees, community partners, and the Executive Director
- Keeping accurate records of presentations and program activities
- Helping programs stay organized and on schedule
Business Mentor
For approximately six hours each week, you will work one-on-one with an individual with disabilities who operates a small art business.
You will:
- Help organize and support day-to-day small business activities
- Assist with preparing for art shows, vendor events, and sales opportunities
- Schedule and attend sales events with the business owner
- Transport the business owner and art/supplies to events
- Maintain accurate business and support records
- Use or learn payment-processing systems such as Square
- Provide encouragement and practical support while helping the business owner maintain as much independence as possible
Who We’re Looking For
You may be a good fit for this position if you are:
- Dependable, patient, and comfortable working with people with disabilities
- Organized and able to manage schedules and multiple responsibilities
- Comfortable communicating with schools, community organizations, employees, and members of the public
- Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office, internet research, scanning, and everyday technology
- Comfortable with basic graphic design or willing to learn
- Creative or artistically inclined
- Comfortable driving regularly as part of your workday
- Able to work independently while also being part of a small team
Experience with art, small business operations, sales events, or business ownership is helpful, but we also welcome candidates who have relevant transferable skills and are willing to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
We are especially interested in candidates with either:
- Two years of experience in art, creative small business management, small business ownership, or a related area; or
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Art, Business, or a related field and an interest in learning small business management skills
These qualifications are preferred, not required for an otherwise strong candidate.
Position Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have a valid California Class C Driver’s License
- Have a reliable, insured personal vehicle
- Have an insurable driving record
- Be able to pass a background check
- Be able to sit and/or drive for up to four hours during the workday and up to two hours at a time
- Be comfortable entering and navigating client homes, businesses, schools, and community settings
