Job Description

  • Job Title: Program Manager
  • Direct Report: Regional Pastor (regional outcomes) & SA National Director (national outcomes)
  • Hours: This position is 40 hours per week working Monday through Friday. From time to time, after-hours work may be required, particularly when mission teams are visiting. Time-off will be provided where additional hours are worked.

Position Summary

The Program Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring Orchard: Africa’s programs in the Western Cape, ensuring effective delivery and alignment with the organisation’s mission to equip churches to care for vulnerable communities. The role supports program champions, church leaders and partner churches while strengthening program impact through mentoring, training, monitoring, evaluation, and ongoing development.

The Position Is Divided Between Two Areas Of Responsibility

  • 80% dedicated to the Western Cape (WC) Regional Impact Center, reporting to the WC Regional Pastor and;
  • 20% supporting Satellite Impact Center and Central Team program management and development, reporting to the South Africa (SA) National Director.

Roles and Responsibilities

Program Implementation & Development

  • In liaison with the relevant direct reports. Develop and oversee clear program pathways for Orchard: Africa’s key programs in the Western Cape and, when required, at other Impact Centres. These programs include but are not limited to:
    • Food and Agriculture Program
    • Care Programs
      • Women’s Development Program
      • Young Mothers Development Program
      • Men’s Development Program
      • Young Adults / Leaders Development Program
    • Education Programs
      • Preschool
      • Next Step Educare Groups
    • Economic Development Program
  • Coordinate workshops, mentoring sessions, and training activities for program champions and community partners.
  • Ensure programs are implemented effectively and achieve their intended outcomes.
  • Refine and develop current and new programs to equip the church to care for the vulnerable.

Program Monitoring and Reporting

  • Implement and improve systems to monitor program progress and outcomes.
  • Prepare quarterly program progress reports.
  • Conduct an annual program review included in the final report of the year.
  • Use program data to refine and strengthen program implementation and development.

Community and Partner Engagement

  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to program champions within partner churches and communities.
  • Maintain regular communication with program champions and visit community program sites when required.
  • Assist with monitoring program partners to ensure MOU commitments and program outcomes are achieved.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Identify and connect with local experts who can assist with workshops and program training.
  • Equip program champions and community leaders with the skills and knowledge required to strengthen program impact.

Mission Trip Support

  • Assist local staff with the planning, coordination, and implementation of mission trips as required.
  • Ensure mission teams support and strengthen existing programs and community partnerships.

Other Responsibilities

  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the smooth running of the organisation.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Relevant training or experience in community development, program management, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate workshops, training sessions, and community programs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate program progress and prepare reports.
  • A heart for community transformation and alignment with Orchard: Africa’s mission and values.
  • Valid South African Code B drivers license.
