Programs Manager
NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists seeks a Programs Manager for immediate hire in Washington, DC. This position will be eligible for hybrid work following a trial period of fully in-office work, and applicants must be available to work in-office in Washington, D.C. at least two days per week.
The Programs Manager is responsible for overseeing and executing the association’s key programming initiatives, including awards programs, scholarships, fellowships, training programs, and convention programming. This role also involves developing and maintaining partnerships that enhance the association’s impact. The Programs Manager reports directly to the Executive Director, supervises the Programming intern, and works collaboratively with NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists staff.

This position requires strong project management skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, and excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Position ResponsibilitiesProgram Development & Execution
Direct and administer programming initiatives and deliverables, including project planning, monitoring, data tracking, and reporting.
Oversee and manage Excellence in Journalism Awards, fellowships, webinars, and newsroom outreach.
Plan and coordinate annual Student Conference and National Convention programming, including collecting session descriptions, securing speakers, and scheduling events.
Develop and implement new initiatives that enhance professional development for LGBTQ+ journalists.
Evaluate program effectiveness through participant feedback, performance metrics, and needs assessments.
Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain mission-driven partnerships with media organizations, journalism schools, industry leaders, and other stakeholders.
Marketing & Communications Support
Work with the marketing team to develop and distribute promotional materials, outreach strategies, and program messaging.
Maintain regular communication with staff and stakeholders to ensure program requirements, deadlines, and deliverables are met.
Leadership & Administration
Serve as a representative and advocate for the association’s mission and programs at events and in communications with key stakeholders.
Provide reports on program outcomes to the Executive Director, Executive Board, and Board of Directors.
Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in program and project management, preferably in a nonprofit, association, or media-related setting.
Proven ability to develop, manage, and evaluate professional development programs, awards, scholarships, and large-scale events.
Experience planning and executing conferences, workshops, or training programs.
Strong ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders, partners, and sponsors to expand programmatic impact.
Proficiency in Google Suite; experience with CRM or program management software is a plus.
Preferred: Experience working in journalism, nonprofits, or DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) spaces.
Must be willing to travel for conventions, board meetings, and partner events.
