Location: 3450 Third Street, Building 2, San Francisco, CA 94124

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Safe & Sound’s mission is to prevent and reduce the impact of childhood abuse, neglect, and trauma. We do this by strengthening families, building communities, and advancing healing, equity, and justice. We envision a future free from childhood trauma, where all children, families, and communities are safe, supported, and loved.

Combining direct services, training and capacity building, research, and advocacy to strengthen families in their communities, address childhood trauma, and prevent abuse, Safe & Sound has evolved into a premiere child-serving organization, bringing over 50 years of service to our community.

We reach more than 11,000 caregivers and children annually with our unique coordinated, multi-generational approach that spans the entire spectrum of prevention and intervention to strengthen family resilience and address factors that put families at risk for experiencing abuse or involvement in unsubstantiated abuse allegations.

The organization has an annual operating budget of approximately $10.8 million and is supported by approximately 55 staff, interns, and more than 100 volunteers. Safe & Sound headquarters is located in a historic firehouse in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco, with a second office in the Bayview neighborhood.

OVERALL SUMMARY

Safe & Sound serves as the backbone organization for the Family Services Alliance (FSA), a coalition of 44 San Francisco community-based organizations — including 26 Family Resource Centers — that collectively serve more than 51,000 families each year. As the FSA has grown in scope, particularly around referral technology platforms, Medi-Cal involvement, and cross-sector partnership coordination, the day-to-day coordination work has increasingly been absorbed by senior staff whose time is better spent on supervision, policy, and systems-level work.

The Program Coordinator-Strategic Partnerships & Policy (FSA) is a new role created to provide dedicated operational capacity to the SPP team in their FSA backbone and cross-sector systems change work.

The Program Coordinator focuses exclusively on coordination, implementation, and communications — ensuring that convenings run smoothly, member organizations are supported and connected, grant deliverables are tracked, and the broader field stays informed. This is an ideal opportunity for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who is energized by collaborative, mission-driven work and wants to help strengthen the systems that support families across San Francisco.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coalition Coordination & Member Support

  • Coordinate the day-to-day logistics of FSA convenings, Steering Committee meetings, and workgroup activities, including invitations, scheduling, materials preparation, note-taking, follow-ups, and virtual meeting technology.
  • Support member outreach and engagement by tracking contacts and data, building relationships with partners, and preparing senior staff for meetings.
  • Support event logistics
  • Maintain shared documents, contact lists, trackers, and other coordination infrastructure that supports the FSA backbone.

Communications & Design

  • Support FSA communications, including the member newsletter, social media channels, and website to keep the 44-member coalition and broader field informed and engaged.
  • Manage and improve the organization’s email marketing platform (Mailchimp), including list cleanup, segmentation, and more effective use.
  • Maintain and update email distribution lists across the coalition.
  • Provide graphic design support — creating and formatting presentations, documents, flyers, and other materials for internal and external audiences.

Data & Technology

  • Administer the Find Help referral platform, including reaching out to organizations to onboard them, running reports, managing the backend, curating resources, troubleshooting, and gathering feedback from users and partners.
  • Support Salesforce data entry and run reports to identify partners and stakeholders for engagement.
  • Track implementation progress across grant deliverables and performance measures, maintaining accurate records and supporting timely reporting.

Research & Operations

  • Conduct basic background research on topics related to child welfare, family stability, coalition work, and related areas to support the team.
  • Process vendor payments and check requests, and support cross-checking of budget items in coordination with the appropriate staff.
  • Provide additional administrative and project coordination support to the Strategic Partnerships & Policy team as needed.

Undertake other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience in program coordination, administration, community engagement, or a related role, ideally in a nonprofit or community-based setting. Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to track multiple workstreams and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort drafting newsletters and social media content.
  • Experience with email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp) and basic graphic design for presentations and materials (e.g., Canva, Google Slides, or similar).
  • Comfort with data entry and reporting in a CRM or database (Salesforce experience a plus).
  • Proficiency with common collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, project management platforms such as Monday.com).
  • A collaborative, service-oriented approach and the ability to build trusting relationships across diverse organizations and communities.
  • Commitment to Safe & Sound’s mission and to racial equity and family well-being.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with San Francisco’s family-serving, child welfare, or community-based organization landscape.
  • Experience supporting coalitions, convenings, or multi-organization initiatives.
  • Experience with referral platforms (e.g., Find Help), data reporting, or light fiscal/administrative support such as check requests.
  • Experience or training in the fields of public health, the intersection of health and social services, and/or health care or social care data.
