Job Title: Philanthropy Associate Program: Philanthropy and External Affairs
Reporting Location: Ghent Reports To: Director of Philanthropy and External Affairs
Scope of work performed: The Philanthropy Associate will be the direct contact for individual and independent donors. They will focus on developing one to one relationships to cultivate engagement. While being responsible for database management, fundraising event coordination, grant writing and the maintenance of the multi-year giving society. This position will play a key role in assisting the department to grow the donor base and increase unrestricted funding. The Philanthropy Associate will report to the Director of Philanthropy and External Affairs.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or related field.
Proficiency in donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
One to two years of fundraising or related experience.
Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate working weekends and evenings when needed.
Skills:
Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
Sales and project management experience with relevant and transferable skills such as networking and public speaking.
Experience following and creating budgets.
Math and analytical skills.
Creative, attention to details, and goal driven.

Responsibilities:
Assist with networking to identify and cultivate new potential donors.
Host entry events to introduce new donors to the organization.
Build and maintain strong positive relationships with current donors.
Support and participate in donor solicitations and stewardship activities.
Oversee and maintain the multi-year giving society.
Ensure donors receive regular updates and recognition.
Manage and update the donor database system to keep records current.
Generate donor reports, analyze data, and provide insights to create fundraising strategies.
Collaborate with the Marketing Associate to promote events and engage participants.
Support Director in planning and executing fundraising events including organization, sponsorship and post event follow ups.
Assist Director in writing and submitting grant proposals.
Track grant deadlines, requirements, and reporting obligations.
Maintain detailed records of grant applications and awards.
Work with internal teams to align fundraising efforts with the organization’s goals.
Represent the organization at community events and networking opportunities as needed.
Perform any related duties as requested by the Director of Philanthropy and/or the Executive Director.
SKILLS
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

All staff must pass all NYS Justice Center Background Check Requirements (if required), and Physical. In addition, the employee has a duty to report any suspected violations of the law (including any motor vehicle infractions) to the Human Resources Department.
