They are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their Finance team and play a critical role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll operations that support staff and organizational programs.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and support end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for all employees
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including wage and hour laws
- Process and maintain documentation related to wage garnishments, levies, and other payroll deductions, ensuring proper recordkeeping and compliance
- Maintain accurate payroll records for union and non-union employees, including adherence to collective bargaining agreements where applicable
- Partner closely with Human Resources and Accounting to research, reconcile, and resolve payroll discrepancies
- Prepare, review, and submit weekly payroll reports for internal stakeholders
- Support audits and internal reviews by providing payroll documentation and reports as needed
- Assist with system updates, process improvements, and documentation to strengthen payroll controls and efficiency
- Contribute to a collaborative finance team culture focused on accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- 7+ years of hands-on payroll experience, within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
- Strong working knowledge of payroll compliance, garnishments, deductions, and record retention requirements
- Proficiency with payroll systems such as ADP or Paycom
- Experience supporting multi-state payroll and both exempt and non-exempt employees is a plus
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
