Position Type: Part-Time Contract (1099). This position will run for the 2026-2027 CMS school year with potential to renew for the following school year.

Reports To: Mental Health Director

Hours: 6-10 hours per week depending on caseload size

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (flexible scheduling within these hours)

Compensation: $30/hour. Clinical supervision toward independent licensure is included if you are an LCSW-A.

Position Summary

What’s Next is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and collaborative Mental Health Therapist to provide counseling services to adolescent boys during after-school hours. This school-year position offers flexibility for clinicians seeking meaningful part-time work while making a lasting impact in the lives of young people.

The therapist will provide individual counseling, facilitate therapeutic groups, collaborate with the Clinical Director and graduate clinical interns, and contribute to a supportive clinical environment. There is potential for the position to extend through the summer based on program needs and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling to adolescent boys (primarily 30-minute weekly sessions).
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups focused on emotional wellness, healthy relationships, social skills, emotional regulation, and resilience.
  • Maintain a caseload of approximately 8–12 weekly clients, depending on program needs and intern support.
  • Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Develop treatment goals and monitor client progress.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Director regarding client care and treatment planning.
  • Participate in clinical consultation and support graduate counseling and social work interns as appropriate.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, caregivers, schools, and community partners when clinically indicated.
  • Uphold ethical and professional standards in accordance with licensing board requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in Social Work
  • Current North Carolina license as an LCSWA or LCSW.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Passion for serving adolescent boys and supporting their mental health and emotional development.

Preferred

  • At least 1 year post graduate experience working with children or adolescents.
  • Experience facilitating therapy groups.
  • Experience working in nonprofit, school-based, or community mental health settings.
  • Interest in collaborating with graduate clinical interns.
