Job Description

Role Description The Parent Centre is looking for two suitably qualified applicants with experience as a community worker or counsellor or Parent Infant Counsellor who resides in Maitland to Milnerton, Khayelitsha, and Mitchells Plain to join our community based Parent Infant Team.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct community outreach and recruit clients through clinics and community-based organisations (CBOs).
  • Facilitate weekly Pregnancy and Early Childhood Parenting talks at Midwife Obstetric Units (MOUs) or Community Health Centres.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clinic staff and key stakeholders.
  • Manage client referrals (self and clinic-based) and report to Supervisor.
  • Submit a detailed report on each clinic talk, including topics and content covered.
  • Conduct home visits and follow up on allocated cases.
  • Submit weekly schedules, monthly statistics and reports as required.
  • Ensure all required client signatures are recorded to confirm visits or attendance.
  • Maintain accurate client records and attendance registers.
  • Follow up promptly on cases allocated during weekly supervision sessions.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Grade 12 or higher.
  • At least 1 to 2 years of accredited training in lay counselling.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in community work or counselling.
  • Valid Code 08 driver’s license (advantageous).
  • Fluent in English and/or Afrikaans/IsiXhosa.
  • Parenting experience.
  • These posts need strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as an ability to work sensitively with vulnerable families.
  • This post needs someone who can work independently with good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • They need an ability to maintain professional boundaries and have strong community engagement and outreach skills.
  • We work with parents so it would be advantageous that you are a parent.
  • This post needs good time management, self-discipline and an ability to work collaboratively and engage in supervision
