ABOUT US:
The Immigration Resource Center of San Gabriel Valley (IRCSGV), an extension of Mountainside Communion – A Church of the Nazarene, is a nonprofit organization that supports the immigrant population in San Gabriel Valley by providing high quality, low-cost immigration legal services; connecting clients to local community resources; and developing financial support that is transformative for the IRCSGV and its donors. The IRCSGV is recognized by the Office of Legal Access Programs within the U.S. Department of Justice as a charitable organization authorized to perform immigration legal services and host accredited legal representatives. The IRCSGV believes in radical kinship and extends services to people of all ethnic and religious backgrounds, without restriction.
The IRCSGV traces its roots to a collaboration between Mountainside Communion and the Monrovia Youth Alliance (MYA), a youth organization embedded within the Santa Anita Family YMCA. Starting in 2007, this partnership matured and friendships were forged with immigrant families, who shared stories of courage, uncertainty, family, fear, and hope. Over the last fifteen years this transformative experience, relationships with local immigration attorneys, new friendships with immigrant neighbors, partnerships with other faith communities, and a physical space for church life, have all converged into what is now the IRCSGV. Although a program of Mountainside Communion, the IRCSGV has a separate budget, with no co-mingled funds, and no religious services provided. Position Description
IRCSGV is seeking to hire an experienced paralegal or person with previous DOJ/OLAP accreditation to provide direct legal support to the immigrant community. The paralegal/accredited representative will provide services to survivors of violence, helping them obtain immigration benefits in a trauma-informed care environment. The applicant will assist survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other serious crimes, primarily by filing U Visa, T Visa, and VAWA applications. The applicant will also assist with family-based benefit applications, naturalization, TPS, DACA, FOIA requests, and other affirmative benefits that may emerge through future legislation. The scope of work ranges from implementing direct legal services, supervision of volunteers and interns, and strengthening program effectiveness. The applicant should have the requisite immigration knowledge and experience to regularly exercise discretion and provide independent judgment in the duties listed below.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Program Services
- The Paralegal/Accredited Representative will provide direct legal services to IRCSGV Service Participants, which include:
- Providing legal counseling to clients on immigration options (if accredited) and performing ongoing case management.
- Filing affirmative applications for immigration benefits before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of State.
- Researching and drafting legal documents.
- Accompany survivors of violence to meetings with law enforcement, social services, and other agencies as necessary for the provision of immigration services.
- Attending interviews at local field offices.
- Promote and implement program policies and procedures and established case management systems.
- Ensure that all assigned legal services are provided in accordance with applicable Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements, and IRCSGV Policies and Procedures.
- Along with other legal services staff, assist with the development and organization of program and case management documents and systems.
- In collaboration with other legal services staff, train and supervise legal volunteers and interns.
- In collaboration with the Director of Legal Services, assist with the training and accreditation of staff applying for OLAP accreditation.
- Maintain proficiency and guide staff in policy, statutory, case law, and other legal developments.
- Other Responsibilities, as needed:
- Effectively represent IRCSGV at community functions and at other events as requested or needed – presenting on immigration law and benefits available to the non-U.S. Citizen population.
- Represent IRCSGV at meetings with organizations that represent the interests of immigrants.
- Assist with community clinics and workshops, as needed.
- Assist with marketing and fund development efforts, as needed.
- Assist with staffing the reception area in coordination with other Legal Services staff to ensure coverage during business hours.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Legal Services.

Pay: $27.00 – $33.00 per hour
