About Us
Restoring the Lake Depths Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Nevada nonprofit dedicated to cleaning and restoring navigable lakes in Nevada and California. Using remote underwater vehicles (ROVs), we remove trash and debris to help restore water clarity and protect freshwater ecosystems. We are a small, passionate team working to keep Lake Tahoe pristine.
Position Overview
We are looking for a reliable, friendly, hands-on Operations & Fundraising Assistant to support two key areas of our work:
- Boat Operations Support – primarily helping our ROV operator with tether management and basic deckhand tasks.
- Fundraising & Program Support – assisting our Director of Development and Director of Programs with donor outreach, administrative tasks, and miscellaneous assignments.
This is an excellent role for someone who enjoys being outdoors, wants nonprofit experience, and likes helping a team in a variety of ways.
Responsibilities
On-the-Water Support (Deckhand Duties)
- Assist the Captain and ROV operator during lake operations.
- Manage the ROV tether safely and attentively (primary duty).
- Help with basic boat upkeep, and equipment organization.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding vessels and safety conditions.
- Keep the deck clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all safety protocols and instructions from the Captain and crew.
Fundraising & Program Support
- Assist the Director of Development with donor outreach tasks, follow-ups, and basic administrative support.
- Help prepare fundraising materials, proposals, and donor communications.
- Support grant-related tasks as assigned (no writing experience required).
- Assist with scheduling, organizing donor information, and tracking outreach.
- Provide general support to the Director of Programs on miscellaneous assignments.
- Help with community engagement activities when needed.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Comfortable working outdoors and on a boat.
- Ability to swim.
- Boat experience is helpful but not required — we will train you.
- Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and help wherever needed.
- Interest in nonprofits, fundraising, or environmental work is a plus.
- Must be able to handle light physical activity on the boat.
Schedule
This is an as-needed position. Typical lake operations run Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–1:00 PM, depending on weather and project needs. Fundraising support hours are flexible and may be remote or in-person depending on the task.
Compensation
$15 per hour. This is a support position.
