Nutrition Educator – Position Summary

The Nutrition Educator provides direct education related to basic nutrition, cultural foods, food budgeting, food safety, and choosing physically active lifestyles for program participants using evidence-based materials and methods for tribal sites. The position will take a leadership role in planning and implementing Policy, Systems, and Environment projects within the community. This position requires the ability to be creative, build partnerships with community partners and engage with various age groups in the community. Frequent independent work is required, and dependability is a key element of this position. This position is located at the central office in Lac du Flambeau with frequent travel to Sokaogon Chippewa Community.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan and implement policy, systems, and environment projects.
Implement lesson plans for nutrition education sessions with key nutrition and physical activity messages.
Adapt existing resources for various audiences.
Create supporting materials for lesson plans and programming including handouts, demonstration videos, newsletters, infographics, and social media materials.
Accurate and timely completion of reporting requirements and program evaluation components.
Build partnerships and develop collaborations with other programs in the service areas.
Participate in applicable local coalitions.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

Work in collaboration with other programs in the service area.
Explore connections to nutrition education and food sovereignty initiatives.
Assure that all services are delivered in a culturally competent manner.
Attend all training sessions and meetings as scheduled.
Perform other duties as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

This is a 40-hour position, with daily hours of 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. The salary for this position is $22.00 – $25.00 per hour, depending upon education and experience. This position includes the following benefits: Annual/Personal Leave and Holiday Pay, Health, Dental, Life & AD&D, STD and LTD Insurance, FSA and 401(k) Retirement Plan. This is not a remote position. Work is performed in an office environment with minimal exposure to injury. Occasional travel to other sites to attend training and provide direct education may be required. Position requires bending and lifting 15-20 pounds. There could be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns. Background check required prior to employment.

Qualifications:

Required High School diploma or equivalent. Prefer experience, or strong interest, in nutrition or related field. Individuals must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to manage time effectively; self-motivation skills; the ability to work with minimal or no supervision, as well as the ability to function as an effective team member; creative freedom and empowerment to build this program; the ability to follow routine instructions and apply logic in the solving of various computer-related issues. Must be able to perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide). Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with adequate insurance and the ability to travel.
