Nonprofit Board Position: Development Chair Jobs in Portland, Oregon, USA at Oregon Health & Science University

STEM Like a Girl is looking to add a Development Chair to its Board of Directors. The board is seeking a candidate with a passion to inspire young girls in STEM while taking on a leadership role within the STEM Like a Girl organization. We are looking for STEM professionals, executives, philanthropists, influencers and leaders in the community who also have non-profit Board experience and want to leverage their network to help advance our mission.

The Development Board Member is a volunteer position on STEM Like a Girl’s board, primarily focused on identifying and cultivating potential donors, securing funding through fundraising initiatives, and building relationships with key stakeholders to support the organization’s mission by actively contributing to its financial sustainability; they are expected to leverage their network and expertise to attract new donors and maintain existing relationships with significant contributors.

the Organization:

The mission of STEM Like a Girl is to excite and empower girls with knowledge and confidence in STEM to become future problems solvers and leaders. Founded in 2018, STEM Like a Girl is an Oregon-based nonprofit organization that hosts half-day STEM workshops for girls in 3rd-5th grade and an adult caregiver. Our workshops encourage family learning while working through fun, hands-on science and engineering challenges that will excite and expose girls to the various fields of STEM.

At the core of every STEM Like a Girl workshop is our foundational belief in the power of girls, their parents (or other adult caregiver), and mentors to encourage girls to develop their own STEM identity.

Since 2018, STEM Like a Girl has

Hosted over 38 Parent-Daughter workshops.

Inspired over 1100 girls (and their parents or adult caregiver) through STEM Like a Girl workshops in Oregon and Washington.

Partnered with over 150 volunteers to bring STEM Like a Girl workshops to life.

Our goal is to continue offering workshops in our current locations while expanding our program to new communities to reach as many girls as possible.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience with fundraising and cultivating partnerships

Expertise in financial management

Prior participation on board committees, fundraising, finance, and governance committees.

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of STEM Like a Girl

Passion for empowering young girls and their families in STEM

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field, education, or other related field

Experience with non-profit fundraising

Board Terms and Participation:

STEM Like a Girl Board Members will serve an initial one-year term and will then be eligible for re-appointment to a three-year term. Board members are expected to attend every other month board meetings, at least one STEM Like a Girl workshop each year and periodic committee meetings. Serving on STEM Like a Girl Board of Directors is a volunteer position.

All board members are expected to fulfill a $500 annual “give or get” donation commitment to grow STEM Like a Girl’s programs and impact.
