Job Summary and Purpose
The Outreach Specialist at Inspire Together is responsible for engaging individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness by providing field-based outreach, initial assessments, emergency service referrals, and linkage to housing and supportive services. Using a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and youth-development approach, the Outreach Specialist works as a first point of contact in the Coordinated Entry System (CES), guiding participants through the intake process and assisting them in accessing the housing and care continuum—from crisis intervention to permanent supportive housing.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct street-based and community outreach to identify and engage unsheltered individuals and families.
Build rapport and trust with clients through consistent, compassionate, and non-judgmental support.
Complete comprehensive screenings, problem-solving conversations, and CES survey packets tailored to client demographics.
Provide immediate referrals to emergency services, shelters, and drop-in resources as needed.
Collaborate with partner agencies to ensure coordinated service delivery and avoid duplication of efforts.
Attend community events and resource fairs to increase access to services and promote Inspire Together programs.
Assist clients in identifying barriers and co-develop individualized case plans to meet short- and long-term housing and stability goals.
Facilitate or co-lead life skills classes to support client independence and resiliency.
Monitor client progress, conduct regular follow-ups, and revise service plans as needed.
Advocate for clients with landlords, service providers, and public agencies.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of services and outcomes in agency databases and CES systems.
Participate in case conferencing and staff meetings, contributing to a multidisciplinary team approach.
Perform other duties as assigned to support program goals and client well-being.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred.
Minimum 1 year of experience in outreach, case management, or social service roles.
Understanding of and commitment to Housing First, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and youth development principles.
Ability to build strong community relationships and work effectively in diverse cultural and socio-economic environments.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Clear background check including fingerprinting, references, employment, and education verification.
Reliable transportation for field work and outreach activities.
Work Conditions
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
May involve exposure to emotionally stressful situations and working with individuals in crisis.
Must be able to maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour
