TITLE: Nature School Assistant Teacher
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Part-time, exempt staff position in River Legacy Nature Center's Nature School.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for assisting Nature School lead teacher as needed with the implementation of developmentally- appropriate learning environments that provide hands-on/minds-on explorations of nature and experiences in art, music, literature, and socio-dramatic play through which children can deepen their conceptual understandings of the plant and animal life of River Legacy Parks.
Responsible for assisting Nature School lead teachers with:
- classroom set up and clean up
- gathering and returning supplies, teaching or resource material
- caring for a sick or injured student until a parent picks up the child
- preparing for parent orientation, open house and registration
- a familiarity with the current, most effective pedagogical practices in environmental education
Responsible for teaching the number of classes specified in the Nature School assistant contract for the thirty-week school year and two or four weeks of summer programming.
Responsible for obtaining 24 clock hours of training annually, exclusive of CPR and First Aid, as required by Texas HHS.
Responsible for working effectively with River Legacy Nature School staff and volunteers and with other Nature Center staff and volunteers.
Assume responsibility for tasks as requested and assigned by the Education Director.
REPORTS TO: Education Director
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should possess an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and be familiar with developmentally-appropriate practices in a progressive early childhood learning environment. Experience in outdoor education preferred.
SALARY RANGE: $14-$16 per hour
ADDITIONAL: Assistant must wear a Nature Center uniform shirt daily and observe all River Legacy Foundation policies and procedures.
