Job Description / Responsibility
Job Context:
Perform counseling and/or education sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health MSF protocols and procedures, to improve their psychosocial condition.
Accountabilities:
- Identify the psychosocial, socioeconomic, and administrative needs of patients.
- Actively promote the availability of counseling services and conduct individual or group counseling sessions, as well as basic psychoeducation sessions, for patients and, when needed, their families to alleviate psychosocial difficulties within the scope of the project.
- Implement the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) protocol by identifying possible survivors of SGBV and referring them to the medical team to ensure they receive the necessary treatment.
- Refer patients to other specialists or institutions for additional support when necessary, ensuring they receive the most appropriate assistance available.
- Participate in the development of materials required for counseling activities and ensure they are properly maintained.
- Maintain records and daily activity statistics, and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss complex cases with other counselors while maintaining confidentiality.
- Inform the line manager of any issues arising during day-to-day activities.
- Take an active part in training sessions, supervision/intervision, and support the Activity Manager, when necessary, in conducting awareness sessions for MSF staff and external partners on mental health and psychosocial issues.
- Conduct facility-based awareness and sensitization sessions in the OPD jointly with, or independently of, Health Promoters (HPs) to identify new mental health patients.
- Conduct community-based awareness and sensitization sessions jointly with HPs to identify new mental health patients and increase referrals to mental health services.
- Proactively participate in community-based and home-based palliative care services and provide psychosocial support sessions for patients with severe illnesses and their caregivers to help them manage stress and promote acceptance of their condition.
- Actively participate in the use of pediatric mental health screening tools in the OPD, Emergency Room (ER), and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) units, and ensure psychosocial support is provided to identified patients and their caregivers.
- Identify gaps and recommend training and technical support for facility-based HPs on identifying and referring new mental health patients.
- Conduct home visits for mental health patients who have defaulted on treatment, jointly with or independently of HPs, within the Rohingya community when required. Ensure appropriate psychosocial support is provided to patients and caregivers, in liaison with the Social Worker.
- Conduct mental health consultations and group sessions (including play interventions) in Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) in line with MSF MHPSS guidelines, ensuring high-quality care.
- Actively collaborate in providing joint sessions for SRH and SGBV patients whenever required.
- Be flexible and take responsibility for receiving patients from the mental health waiting area during the absence or leave of the Mental Health Registrar to ensure continuity of mental health services.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor/Honors
- Masters
- Bachelors degree in psychology is essential
- Masters degree in psychology is desirable.
- Skills Required: Microsoft 365
