Position: Military Veteran Peer Navigator [1079]
Program: Amarillo, Texas – Veterans Services
Salary range: $38,500.80 – $48,859.20 Annually
Shift available: Full-time
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Staff will maintain ethical and professional communications at all times using respectful Trauma-Informed Care language
This position will be responsible for management and implementation of veteran’s outreach program
This position will assist with the development of the unit budget and monitor budget information to ensure the unit operates efficiently and within budgetary guidelines
The person in this position will provide all coordination of veteran reintegration services with community veteran organizations and individuals (Stakeholders) who provide veteran reintegration services
The position will be a sponsor and/or organize quarterly briefings for Stakeholders and volunteers for the following purposes: Share information about the activities of the Military Veteran Peer Network and Stakeholders; Update members of the Military Veteran Peer Network and Stakeholders about community resources and reintegration services for veterans, and assess the reintegration service needs of veterans in the community; Identify deficiencies in community reintegration services, and devise tactics to address the deficiencies; Share information about community-based health and human services for veterans; Share information about evidence-based practices to enhance Network members’ ability to provide veteran peer-to-peer counseling; and share information about how to navigate community-based health and human services systems, including how to access services and make efficacious referrals to community mental health care providers
This position will develop a volunteer program to expand the MVPN program to more veterans in the communities
This position will comply with all requirements within the MVPN grant to ensure quality within the program
Adheres to TPC Business Code of Conduct and reports concerns if ethical and/or business standards defined in the code are compromised
Required qualifications to be successful in the job:
High school diploma or GED
One semester (12 credit hours) of accredited college work; or minimum of eighth grade reading comprehension level as evidenced by score on the Adult Basic Learning Examination (ABLE) test
Must be a Service Member, Veteran, or Family Member of a Service Member or Veteran
Must be willing to train to become a Peer Support Specialist
Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and be insurable under agency vehicle policy
Must be 18 years of age or older
Preferred qualifications to be successful in the job:
Veteran with combat experience strongly desired
Prefer experience in behavioral health and/or developmental disabilities
Prefer Certification in Peer Support but will provide training if necessary
Some experience in attending veteran peer support services
