Shelters United is a Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) exclusively serving nonprofit animal welfare organizations (AWOs). We partner closely with a leading veterinary distributor and many of the animal health industry's most respected manufacturers to help animal shelters, rescue organizations, spay/neuter clinics, and other nonprofit animal welfare organizations reduce operating costs so they can invest more resources into saving animal lives.

As a fully remote organization, Shelters United provides all onboarding, training, and daily work through company-issued technology.

Position Summary

As a Member Relationship Consultant, you will serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for our nonprofit members. Your primary responsibility is to build lasting relationships that help organizations maximize the value of their Shelters United membership. Through proactive outreach, thoughtful conversations, and ongoing education, you will help members discover new income stream opportunities for them and savings for their pet adopters.

The emphasis of this role is on developing long-term relationships, delivering exceptional member experiences, increasing engagement, and helping members fully utilize the benefits available to them.

We are looking for a motivated, organized, and relationship-focused professional who enjoys connecting with people by phone, thrives in a fast-paced remote environment, and is passionate about helping nonprofit organizations succeed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with Shelters United members.
  • Conduct proactive outreach through phone calls and email to educate members on available programs, promotions, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Increase member engagement by identifying opportunities to expand utilization of partner products and services.
  • Conduct regular account reviews to ensure members are maximizing the value of their membership.
  • Maintain accurate member records, notes, and follow-up activities within Salesforce.
  • Collaborate with internal team members and partner companies to provide an exceptional member experience.
  • Continuously expand knowledge of Shelters United programs, partner offerings, and industry trends.
  • Meet established outreach, engagement, and member retention goals.

Qualifications

  • Animal shelter, rescue, veterinary, or nonprofit animal welfare experience preferred.
  • Customer success, account management, relationship management, client services, or consultative sales experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • College degree preferred.
