Open Library on Green Economy (OLGE)
Volunteer Role | Remote | ~1 hour per day
About OLGE
The Open Library on Green Economy (OLGE) is a nonprofit knowledge initiative being built as a public good. Its purpose is to make sustainability, climate, and green economy knowledge more accessible, understandable, and usable by students, practitioners, and decision-makers. OLGE curates, organises, and publishes high-quality resources that are currently fragmented, technical, or difficult to access, and presents them in formats that support learning and public engagement.
Purpose of the Role
The Media Volunteer supports OLGE in translating written knowledge into accessible audio-visual formats. The role helps ensure that reports, research, and educational resources reach wider audiences through podcasts, videos, and other media outputs.
Nature of Engagement
This is a volunteer role for individuals who value contributing time and skill to a mission-driven knowledge initiative. The work is practical, structured, and ongoing. All engagement is remote, with flexibility around when the daily hour is contributed.
Time Commitment
• Approximately 1 hour per day, on most days of the week
• The schedule is flexible, but consistency is important
Key Responsibilities
Media Volunteers may be involved in a combination of the following activities:
Content Conversion
Support the conversion of reports, articles, interviews, and resources into audio podcasts and short-form or long-form video content.
Organisation & Publishing
Help organise media files, metadata, descriptions, and playlists, and support publishing across platforms used by OLGE.
Basic Editing & Formatting
Assist with light editing, formatting, captions, summaries, and quality checks. Advanced technical expertise is not required.
Content Support Tasks
Support non-technical tasks related to media workflows, including content coordination, scheduling, and documentation.
Collaboration
Work closely with the OLGE team to maintain consistency, clarity, and alignment with OLGE’s knowledge standards.
What OLGE Provides
• Meaningful, hands-on experience contributing to a sustainability and education-focused public good
• Exposure to high-quality climate, policy, and green economy content
• A structured role with clarity on expectations and scope
• Acknowledgement of contributions on OLGE platforms and publications
• A learning-oriented environment that values care, rigour, and consistency
Pathway to a Formal Role
As OLGE secures funding and transitions into a more resourced institutional structure, there may be opportunities to convert high-performing, long-term volunteer roles into paid or formal positions. Any such transition would be based on demonstrated contribution, role fit, and organisational needs at that time. While this cannot be guaranteed, OLGE is committed to recognising sustained and meaningful work wherever possible.
Ideal Profile
This role may suit individuals who:
• Are interested in sustainability, climate, media, or knowledge dissemination
• Are organised, reliable, and comfortable working independently
• Have basic familiarity with audio, video, or digital content platforms, or are willing to learn
• Value consistency and thoughtful execution over speed
Prior media experience is helpful but not mandatory. A genuine interest in the mission and the ability to contribute regularly are most important.
Tenure
• Flexible and open-ended, with a suggested minimum commitment of three months
• The role can be concluded at any time with prior notice
Working Ethos
- OLGE values care, clarity, and respect for contributors’ time. This role is designed to be purposeful rather than extractive, and contributions are treated as meaningful parts of a shared public good.
