ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The South Shore Chamber of Commerce is one of the region's most active business advocacy organizations, connecting hundreds of member businesses, driving economic development, and serving as the civic backbone of the South Shore. We're looking for a marketing leader who understands that the product is the community and who can match that mission with sharp strategy and hands-on execution. This marketer will be equal parts strategist, storyteller, and executor. 

POSITION OVERVIEW

Title: Director of Marketing & Communications

ROLE SUMMARY

The Director of Marketing & Communications owns the Chamber's full marketing function from brand voice and content strategy to digital presence, event promotion, member communications, and media relations. This person will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, work with outside vendors and agencies, and be both the owner and operator of a marketing program built for reach, acquisition, retention, and relevance. This is a highly collaborative role; you will work closely with Chamber staff, leadership, and partners toward shared goals, and we are looking for someone who genuinely thrives in that environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and own the Chamber's annual marketing and communications strategy in alignment with membership growth, event, and advocacy goals
  • Work with outside vendor and agency partners, managing timelines, deliverables, and brand consistency
  • Set and track KPIs across channels, reporting regularly on performance, engagement, and conversion

Content & Editorial

  • Build, execute and maintain an editorial calendar spanning email, LinkedIn, blog, press releases, and event content
  • Develop original content that serves member value, elevates the Chamber's profile, and drives community engagement
  • Oversee photo and video content through planning and execution

Digital & Website

  • Enhance and make updates to the Chamber website as needed to stay relevant and drive KPIs
  • Utilize Google Analytics to track key metrics and inform decisions
  • Manage paid social strategy, execution and evaluate performance 
  • Maintain and grow the Chamber's email list and communication cadence through CRM/marketing automation tools (Constant Contact)

Media & Public Relations

  • Develop and execute a proactive earned media strategy to position the Chamber as the authoritative voice of South Shore business
  • Draft and distribute press releases and cultivate relationships with regional media contacts

Events & Member Communications

  • Partner with team members to market Chamber programs, signature events, and member benefits across channels
  • Develop member-facing communications that reinforce value, drive engagement, and reduce churn
  • Support new member recruitment with compelling collateral, case studies, and testimonial-driven content

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience marketing for a membership organization, nonprofit, regional brand, or economic development entity. 
  • Proven ability to build and manage an editorial calendar across multiple platforms
  • Comfortable being an ‘owner/operator’. We’re looking for someone who can ideate and strategize, but also roll up their sleeves to execute.
  • KPI-focused: We’re looking for someone who is creative but also passionate about the numbers and able to assess them and make shifts to stay on target.
  • Exceptional writing skills to ensure the Chamber's voice lives in email, LinkedIn, blog, and press, and this person must own that voice.
  • Strong visual design skills with a working proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and/or Canva and able to produce polished, professional materials independently across print and digital
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare press-ready files, manage print specifications, and coordinate with vendors for brochures, event collateral, signage, and other printed materials
  • Proficiency in Constant Contact CRM and/or WordPress, Weebly CMS
  • Familiarity with membership-based business models and the content that drives retention and recruitment is a plus!
