Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, the Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for increasing community awareness, engagement, and support for the organization’s mission through strategic marketing, storytelling, social media management, photography, videography, and event promotion. This position serves as the primary marketing and communications professional for the organization and works collaboratively with staff to communicate impact, strengthen the organization’s brand, and increase participation in programs, fundraising events, volunteer opportunities, and community initiatives.
Success in this role is demonstrated through consistent, engaging communications; a strong and active social media presence; compelling visual storytelling; effective promotion of organizational events and programs; high-quality marketing materials; and increased public awareness of the organization’s mission and services.
This position works collaboratively across all organizational programs and departments to identify, capture, and communicate the stories, achievements, and impact of the organization’s work. The Marketing & Communications Manager partners with staff to promote programs, support fundraising initiatives, increase community engagement, and ensure the organization’s mission is consistently represented across all communication channels. As part of a small nonprofit team, this position is expected to be creative, organized, adaptable, self-directed, and willing to support organizational priorities as needed.
Position Hours: 15-20 hours per week and whether the position is non-exempt hourly position
Essential Responsibilities
Social Media Management
* Develop, implement, and manage the organization’s social media strategy across all major platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and other emerging channels.
* Create, produce, and publish engaging multimedia content including photography, videography, graphics, reels, stories, short-form videos, and written content that reflects the organization’s mission and impact.
* Develop and maintain a strategic monthly content calendar aligned with organizational priorities, fundraising campaigns, programs, and community events.
* Monitor social media engagement, respond to comments and messages as appropriate, and foster meaningful online community engagement.
* Grow the organization’s digital audience through creative storytelling, video content, and strategic engagement.
* Analyze social media performance and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
* Stay current with evolving social media trends, platform updates, and best practices to maximize reach and engagement.
Marketing & Communications
* Develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns that increase awareness of the organization’s mission, programs, services, fundraising initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and community impact.
* Design professional digital and print marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, newsletters, annual reports, event collateral, advertisements, and promotional pieces.
* Write compelling website content, email campaigns, press releases, blog articles, and organizational announcements.
* Produce original photography and videography that authentically captures the organization’s programs, participants, volunteers, events, and community impact.
* Edit photographs and video content for use across social media, websites, presentations, email marketing, and promotional campaigns.
* Collect and share stories, testimonials, and success stories that inspire community engagement and donor support.
* Collaborate closely with program staff to identify opportunities for storytelling, content creation, and promotion of organizational programs and services.
* Regularly visit program locations and participate in activities to capture authentic stories, photography, video, and participant experiences that highlight the organization’s impact.
* Partner with leadership and staff to develop marketing strategies that support organizational goals across all departments.
* Ensure all marketing and communications maintain a consistent brand identity and messaging.
Event Marketing & Community Engagement
* Develop and execute promotional campaigns for fundraising events, community programs, volunteer opportunities, and special initiatives.
* Attend organizational events as the primary photographer and videographer, capturing high-quality content that showcases the organization’s mission, participants, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community impact.
* Produce real-time event coverage through live social media updates, stories, reels, and behind-the-scenes content.
* Edit and publish post-event photography, highlight videos, and recap content to maximize community engagement and future event participation.
* Work collaboratively with staff across all programs to plan and execute marketing strategies for organizational events, outreach activities, and community initiatives.
* Build strong working relationships with staff, volunteers, participants, donors, and community partners to authentically represent the organization’s mission through compelling visual and written storytelling.
* Assist with event setup, registration, signage, marketing displays, and promotional materials as needed.
Website & Digital Content
* Update and maintain website content to ensure information is current, engaging, and accurate.
* Coordinate online event registrations and promotional pages.
* Develop and distribute email marketing campaigns and digital communications.
* Monitor website performance and recommend improvements to enhance user engagement.
Brand & Community Relations
* Help strengthen the organization’s public image and community presence.
* Build relationships with local media, community organizations, businesses, and partners to increase visibility.
* Identify opportunities for community outreach and promotional partnerships.
* Ensure all communications reflect the organization’s mission, values, and visual identity.
Administrative Support
* Maintain organized marketing files, digital assets, photography and video libraries, and brand resources.
* Coordinate production schedules and vendor communications for printed materials.
* Assist with marketing budget tracking.
* Prepare marketing reports and analytics for leadership and the Board of Directors.
* Support additional organizational projects and special events as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
* Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, digital media, graphic design, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
* One to three years of experience in marketing, communications, social media management, content creation, or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience creating engaging digital content including professional photography, videography, short-form video, reels, and visual storytelling.
* Experience managing organizational social media platforms with an emphasis on audience growth, engagement, analytics, and dynamic content creation—not simply maintaining scheduled posts.
* Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
* Strong organizational and project management abilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Proficiency with Canva, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and social media management platforms.
* Experience using email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar software.
* Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff across all organizational programs and departments.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
* Experience using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Creative Cloud applications, or similar professional design software.
* Experience with website content management systems such as WordPress.
* Experience using video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, or similar platforms.
* Knowledge of Google Analytics, SEO, and digital advertising.
* Experience promoting fundraising events, nonprofit campaigns, and community engagement initiatives.
*Other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits:
The starting hourly rate for this position is $27 per hour with benefits that include unlimited PTO after 90 days of employment, cell phone and mileage reimbursement, EAP support, and 401K program after 90 days of employment. SCHC does not offer health, vision, or dental insurance benefits.
