Job Summary
The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) is seeking a Manager of Alumni Engagement to serve as the strategic leader for alumni engagement, volunteer engagement, ambassador development, and alumni visibility efforts for the University of Michigan School of Nursing. The Manager of Alumni Engagement develops and implements innovative strategies that foster lifelong alumni connection, strengthen alumni advocacy, promote alumni accomplishments, and advance the School's mission and reputation. Through meaningful engagement opportunities, the position connects alumni to students, faculty, staff, and one another while building a culture of pride, participation, volunteerism, mentorship, and philanthropy. Working collaboratively with colleagues across Development and Alumni Engagement, Marketing and Communications, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and University partners, the Associate Director develops and executes a comprehensive engagement strategy that aligns alumni interests with institutional priorities and creates measurable long-term impact.
Direct supervision will be received from the Executive Director of Development. Collaborates Closely With:

Responsibilities*
90% Strategic Alumni Engagement
- Develop and implement a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy aligned with the School's mission, strategic priorities, and advancement goals.
- Create meaningful engagement opportunities that foster lifelong connections through networking, mentorship, volunteerism, advocacy, leadership, professional development, and philanthropic readiness.
- Establish performance measures, evaluate program effectiveness, leverage constituent data to inform strategy, and manage the alumni engagement budget and resources.
- Work to implement strategies in these specific areas of opportunities:
- Young Alumni and Emerging Leaders
- Develop strategies and programs that engage recent graduates and early-career alumni through professional development, mentoring, networking, leadership, and volunteer opportunities while strengthening the transition from student to engaged alumnus.
- Alumni Champion and Ambassador Network
- Recruit, develop, and support alumni champions and volunteer leaders who advance mentoring, recruitment, networking, advocacy, and community-building locally, nationally, and globally.
- Alumni Visibility and Reputation
- Partner with Marketing and Communications to elevate alumni achievements, showcase alumni expertise, strengthen institutional storytelling, and increase alumni pride and affinity.
- Alumni Advocacy and Professional Networks
- Cultivate relationships with alumni across healthcare, academia, industry, government, and community organizations to strengthen student engagement, workforce partnerships, recruitment, and strategic initiatives while fostering inclusive engagement.
- Volunteer Leadership and Governance
- Lead alumni volunteer engagement, manage the Alumni Society Board of Governors, oversee leadership development and succession planning, and coordinate alumni recognition and awards programs.
- Student Philanthropy
- Coordinate student philanthropy initiatives that promote awareness, engagement, and a culture of giving among students.
- Prospect Identification
- Partner with Advancement colleagues to identify and engage alumni with philanthropic potential, support donor stewardship, and align engagement initiatives with fundraising priorities.

Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three or more years of progressive professional experience in alumni relations, higher education advancement, constituent engagement, volunteer management, development, nonprofit leadership, healthcare engagement, or related fields.
- Demonstrated success developing and implementing strategic engagement initiatives.
- Experience building relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
- Experience utilizing data and metrics to inform decision-making.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex organization.
- Preferred Master's degree.
- Experience within higher education, academic medicine, health professions education, healthcare systems, or related environments.
- Experience managing advisory boards, volunteer leaders, or ambassador programs.
- Experience building regional or national engagement networks.
- Familiarity with advancement and constituent relationship management systems.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products (including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. You will be expected to write clearly and concisely for various mediums. You will be expected to have solid interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Ability to travel between work sites.
- Ability to communicate and process information effectively.

This position allows for the majority or all of the work to be completed off-site. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work on-site if necessitated by the supervisor and/or the job requirements, but is not generally scheduled on a recurring basis.
