About the Role
We are seeking a Major Gifts Officer who will play a key role in expanding philanthropic support and strengthening relationships with major donors across multiple regions. This position is ideal for an experienced fundraising professional who is highly relationship-driven, strategic, and comfortable working independently. The Major Gifts Officer will manage and grow a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects through personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship while helping advance annual and multi-year fundraising goals. The role includes regular travel for donor meetings, events, clinic tours, and other relationship-building opportunities.
What You’ll Do
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100–150 major gift prospects and donors through qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Build meaningful relationships with donors through personalized engagement and regular in-person interactions.
- Develop tailored cultivation strategies and donor moves plans to advance prospects through the fundraising pipeline.
- Research donor interests, philanthropic patterns, and giving capacity to support personalized engagement.
- Secure major gifts of $50,000 and above.
- Partner with leadership to establish annual revenue goals and performance benchmarks for the assigned portfolio.
- Prepare donor proposals, briefing materials, stewardship reports, and other donor communications.
- Identify and qualify new prospects within assigned regions to expand the major gifts pipeline.
- Collaborate with program, finance, and communications teams to translate organizational priorities into compelling funding opportunities.
- Engage senior leadership and board members in donor strategy, meeting preparation, and stewardship when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely donor activity, contact reports, and revenue projections within the CRM.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least five years of professional fundraising experience, preferably in major gifts or high-level donor relations.
- Demonstrated success managing high-level donor relationships and closing gifts of $50,000 or more.
- Experience working with CRM systems and development metrics.
- Strong strategic thinking and donor-centered relationship-building skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal, listening, written, and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation and storytelling abilities.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- High level of discretion and a strong ethical approach to fundraising.
- Confidence connecting with diverse audiences and building long-term relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and virtual communication platforms.
- Comfort working independently in a remote environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including multi-day trips, regional donor tours, and occasional evenings.
- Valid driver’s license and comfort with frequent air travel.
