The Legal Compliance Analyst at HIS Daughters House plays a critical role in ensuring that all organizational operations and programs are conducted in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, as well as nonprofit sector regulations.
Description
The analyst will work to ensure HDH’s mission of supporting vulnerable populations by managing legal risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing internal policies that support legal and ethical standards. The work protects HDH’s ability to continue receiving funding, maintain licensure and certifications, and safely deliver services to the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure compliance with:
Nonprofit governance laws (e.g., IRS 501(c)(3) status)
Housing program regulations (e.g., HUD, local housing codes)
Healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA)
Labor laws, grants, and contract requirements
Act as the point of contact for external audits, legal reviews, and regulatory inspections.
2. Policy Development & Governance
Develop, implement, and update organizational policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Coordinate with department heads to ensure operational activities comply with internal and external guidelines.
Maintain the internal compliance calendar to ensure timely filings, renewals, and certifications.
3. Training and Internal Communication
Provide compliance training and educational sessions for staff on topics such as ethics, privacy, documentation, reporting, and client confidentiality.
Translate complex legal language into actionable guidance for HDH staff and leadership.
4. Risk Assessment & Mitigation
Conduct regular risk assessments on program areas such as temporary housing placements, healthcare partnerships, and client data management.
Work with executive leadership to proactively manage legal risks and avoid potential liabilities.
5. Grant & Contract Compliance
Review grants, MOUs, and service contracts to ensure they meet legal and regulatory standards.
Track compliance requirements attached to public and private funding sources, including federal housing and healthcare grants.
