About this Role
The Lead – Strategic Giving at Upaya Social Ventures will play a pivotal role in driving the organization’s mission forward by cultivating and securing philanthropic investments from individual donors. Reporting directly to the Co-CEO, this role involves developing and executing strategies to identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with donors who have the capability to make significant financial contributions. A strategic, relationship-driven professional is required to engage a diverse group of stakeholders across the US, effectively translating Upaya’s programmatic priorities in India into compelling funding opportunities.
The Lead will also be responsible for fostering strong, collaborative relationships across the Development team, keeping colleagues informed of donor interactions, opportunities, and potential concerns. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Upaya’s fundraising goals and requires a professional who is adept at articulating the organizational vision, interpreting program budgets, and crafting persuasive funding proposals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies to expand a portfolio of major individual donors giving $10,000 – $25,000, focusing on the US market.
- Advance towards annual revenue and outreach goals to achieve a minimum personal fundraising target of $400K–$500K annually.
- Identify and qualify new prospects through various channels.
- Conduct in-person and virtual donor meetings to align goals with Upaya’s mission.
- Prepare tailored proposals, presentations, and impact reports.
- Provide project management support to the Co-CEO, tracking donor activities in Salesforce.
- Identify opportunities to build Upaya’s brand among high-net-worth individuals.
- Plan and implement independent donor engagement events.
Requirements
- 8–14 years of experience in fundraising, business development, or client relationship management.
- Proven track record in securing and managing major gifts from individual or corporate partners.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in developing tailored funding proposals and managing donor relationships.
- Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce) and MS Office Suite.
- Passion for global poverty reduction and alignment with Upaya’s mission.
- Comfort working across time zones with teams in India.
