Lead – SBA Loan Closing Officer (Remote)

Statewide Certified Development Corporation is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization that supports economic development by making available low cost, fixed rate commercial and industrial real estate financing to expanding small businesses under the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) 504 Loan Program. We are licensed and regulated by the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide SBA 504 financing and work in partnership with a wide range of lending institutions.
Position Summary: The Lead Loan Closing Officer will oversee the closing process for SBA 504 loans, providing hands-on leadership and technical direction to the closing team. This role combines direct management of complex closings with responsibility for team workflow, quality control, training, and process improvement, ensuring compliance with SBA regulations and a consistently seamless, efficient closing experience for borrowers, lenders, and partners. This position is intended as a growth path toward a future Closing Manager role, and the successful candidate will be expected to build the leadership and operational experience needed to assume that responsibility over time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the day-to-day team lead for the loan closing function, distributing and prioritizing closing workload across staff to meet funding deadlines.
- Manage all aspects of SBA 504 loan closings through funding, including preparation, review, and submission of closing documents for the most complex or high-priority transactions.
- Act as the primary escalation point for closing issues, exceptions, and questions raised by borrowers, lending partners, escrow/title companies, attorneys, and SBA.
- Coordinate with borrowers, lending partners, escrow/title companies, attorneys, and SBA to ensure timely and accurate loan closings.
- Review and analyze title commitments, appraisals, environmental reports, insurance documentation, and other due diligence materials for compliance with SBA guidelines and internal policies.
- Perform quality control review of closing packages prepared by team members prior to submission for funding, ensuring accuracy and SBA program compliance.
- Ensure loan documents and funding conditions meet SBA 504 program guidelines.
- Train, mentor, and support the development of closing staff, including onboarding new team members and providing guidance on SBA SOP updates and closing best practices.
- Identify and recommend improvements to closing processes, procedures, and checklists to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
- Monitor team pipeline and closing metrics, and provide regular status updates to management on closing volume, timelines, and outstanding issues.
- Communicate proactively to resolve closing issues, address borrower questions, and maintain closing schedules.
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with regulatory and company standards.
Qualifications:
- Position is remote but candidates must be located in Mountain or Pacific Time. No exceptions.
- Must be a US Citizen. US Small Business Administration requirement.
- This position is intended as a growth path toward a future Closing Manager role, and the successful candidate will be expected to build the leadership and operational experience needed to assume that responsibility over time.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in SBA loan closing.
- Prior experience mentoring, training, or informally leading other closing or lending staff.
- Thorough knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and 504 loan program guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple closings simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment, including oversight of others’ closing files.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in loan management software and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field.
- Experience working directly with CDCs or nonprofit lenders.
- Prior experience in a lead, supervisory, or team-coordination role within a lending or closing environment.

Salary Range: $90,000 to – $130,000, plus bonus
