About us: We are a company that provides Independent Living Skills services to the Los Angeles Area. Our office is located out of Downey. We provide service to the following areas: South Los Angeles, Downey, Bell, Bell Gardens, Compton, Watts, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Maywood, Vernon, South Gate, North Carson, Gardena, Lynwood, and Paramount.

Independent Living Skills Instructor
Classification: Part-time, Full-time
Reports: Daily Activity sheets/ Calender logs due twice a month, along with Biannual Reports every 6 months

Creative Support is a private, non-profit agency providing a variety of services, instruction, and support to people with developmental disabilities to help them live as independently as possible, in homes and communities of their choice. We match our staff with the people we support to create a great work experience, and we offer comprehensive training and support. This position is part-time with potential for growth and development. Flexible work schedule both weekdays and weekends.
Summary of Job:
The ILS Instructor provides instruction and support in clients’ homes &/or communities as indicated in the Individual Service Plan in any/all of the following domains: Advocacy, Communication, Community Access, Meal Preparation, Health, Housekeeping, Interpersonal Skills, Menu Planning/Nutrition, Money Management, Personal Care, Independent Recreation, Home and Community Safety, Shopping, and transportation.
Essential Functions:
-Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
-Provide training/support with problem solving/life management issues with/for clients
-Serve as a positive, healthy role model and promote a healthy lifestyle
-Transport clients in personal vehicle if appropriate/necessary/authorized
-Assist clients with accessing entitlement benefits and generic resources
-Monitor clients’ safety, health, and medical needs
-Serve as liaison between the agency and: the client, regional center, the client’s parents/family, & other service providers Aissist clients with the development of outcomes & write progress and annual reports
-Make recommendations to management for new services or to revise services as needed
Eligibility Qualifications:
-High school diploma
-Related experience with people with intellectual challenges preferred but not required
-Willingness and ability to perform all essential job functions
-Proof of eligibility to work in USA
-Valid CA Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance, and California Driving Record
-Pass background clearance
-Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills
-Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willing to get prior to starting)
-Preferred but not required: completed or ongoing BA/BS or MA/MS in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or related field

-Sensitivity to our service population’s characteristics
-Discretion and tact in handling confidential and personal information
-Understanding of person-centered philosophy
Physical Demands:
-No special vision requirements
-Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle, or feel
-Must be able to speak clearly, hear, and smell
-Must be able to carry, push, or pull at least 15 pounds
