PIRG seeks an Advocate to lead efforts to lower health care prices and improve patient care quality across the U.S. Our complex health care system faces challenges with incentives that drive up costs with little improvement in care.

Our High Value Healthcare Advocate will campaign to lower prescription drug costs, address hospital price hikes, and fight for stronger patient protections. Responsibilities include evaluating policy reforms, gaining media coverage, and organizing coalitions for grassroots campaigns. The role requires discretion, independent judgment, and project oversight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Program Development: Develop campaigns, research issues, identify policy solutions, and craft strategies and messaging.

Advocacy: Advocate directly to decision-makers and build relationships with agencies, state legislatures, and Congress.

Campaign Strategy: Collaborate with senior staff to develop winning plans, build political support, and assess opportunities.

Coalition Building: Partner with other groups concerned about healthcare issues to maximize influence.

Fundraising: Write grant proposals, engage with foundations, and meet donors.

Media Outreach: Act as spokesperson, organize media events, and raise awareness on healthcare issues.

Staff Recruitment and Development: Recruit and train staff, interns, and volunteers; oversee campaign teams.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have 3-8 years of relevant experience, a commitment to public interest issues, and health policy expertise. Strong communication, analytical skills, and goal orientation are essential.

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting salary ranges from $39,000 to $45,000, depending on experience. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, 401(k), parental leave, disability insurance, student loan assistance, training, and career growth opportunities.
