SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION:
As a member of a health services team that routinely provides various health services, the Health Assistant is responsible for supporting services provided and transporting children to medical and dental appointments. The Health Assistant accurately documents health information and enters into ChildPlus system in a timely manner. Helps recruit potential parents by providing information to them about the various program services and benefits offered to enrolled children and families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordination of Health Services
Assist in organizing Health screenings.
Coordinates health screenings with teachers and providers.
Prepares equipment and space needed for health screenings.
Prepares children for screening procedures.
Documents screening results on proper forms.
Transports children to scheduled medical and dental appointments when necessary.
Comprehensive Health Services
Assists the health team in providing comprehensive health services to children.
Assists onsite medical and dental providers by coordinating services needed, completing necessary paperwork, and work with children to ensure seamless service delivery and pleasant experience for children.
Provides and assists in providing first aid as needed.
Assists the screener/provider in completing the screenings.
Screens children for hearing and vision.
Completes and documents child heights and weights.
Assists in scheduling medical and dental appointments for children.
Effectively communicates children’s health needs, condition, and status to parents, guardians, providers, medical and dental staff, and health team. Provides translation when able and needed.
Completes, Prepares, Enters Health Data
Updates health information.
Prepares child records for filing.
Files records according to established procedures.
Utilizing internal Health Services system, collects and enters necessary data in ChildPlus system, ensuring data is current, complete, and accurate.
Training and Administrative Support
Assists in the coordination and completion of contracts with providers, services, and equipment.
Under the guidance of the Program Nurse/Health Services Specialist, provides training materials, support and guidance to families.
Provides or assists in providing training to parents, guardians, and staff.
Safety
Have or obtain within 30 days of hire a First Aid and CPR Certification as well as maintain the certification during employment.
Two years of experience in medical/nursing training or work experience as a Certified Nurse Aide, Personal Care Attendant, Health Assistant, child care or related.
One year experience in an office or administrative support position with similar data entry, documentation, and recordkeeping duties.
Effective communication skills.
Willingness to regularly travel between center locations and work occasional evenings to meet program needs.
Proof of valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance coverage.
Comfortable working with computers, willing and able to learn program specific systems as needed for position.
