Make a Difference in Your Community

Community Health Initiative (CHI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health of children, families, and seniors by helping people access and maintain affordable health coverage and understand how to use their healthcare benefits.

We are looking for a bilingual Health Access Specialist who is passionate about helping people navigate the healthcare system. In this role, you will work directly with individuals and families to help them enroll in and maintain health coverage, understand their benefits, resolve eligibility issues, and connect with healthcare and community resources.

You don’t need to be an expert in health insurance when you start. We provide comprehensive training and support to help you become successful in the role.

If you enjoy helping people, solving problems, building relationships, and making a tangible difference in your community, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

As a Health Access Specialist, you will:

  • Provide one-on-one assistance with Medi-Cal, Covered California, Medicare, and other health coverage programs.
  • Help clients complete applications, renew coverage, understand eligibility requirements, and resolve coverage or eligibility issues.
  • Follow up with clients to help them successfully access and maintain their health coverage.
  • Build trusting relationships with clients and maintain accurate client information in our Salesforce CRM.
  • Conduct outreach and participate in community events to connect people with health coverage and services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and other partners.
  • Provide education and presentations to clients, community members, and partner organizations.
  • Identify client needs and connect individuals and families with appropriate community resources.
  • Participate in case management, referrals, and client follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete required reports.
  • Stay informed about changes to health coverage programs, regulations, and enrollment requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with CHI’s Health Access team and other community partners.
  • Perform other duties that support CHI’s mission and programs.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Fluent in both Spanish and English, verbally and in writing.
  • Compassionate and genuinely interested in helping people.
  • An excellent listener and communicator.
  • Comfortable working with people from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • A strong problem-solver who can research an issue and identify solutions.
  • Comfortable using computers and learning new technology and software.
  • Able to work independently while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Flexible and willing to learn new programs, processes, and responsibilities.
  • Comfortable speaking with individuals one-on-one as well as presenting information to groups.
  • Dependable and committed to providing excellent service to clients.
