Job Description

The Head of Fund Development directs the organisation's income generation strategy, managing teams to meet targets through major gifts, grants, and campaigns, and any other funding channels. The Head of Fund Development sits as a partner on the Senior Management Team.

He/She will have substantial fundraising and management experience, a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds from public sources, foundations, trusts and major donors. Experience in development of an individual donor programme including donor marketing is also an essential skill. Exposure in organizing events, legacy and digital fundraising is an additional skill.

Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Strategic planning, income generation, donor relationship management and diversifying income streams.
  • Diversify the organisation’s income streams, which include institutional donors, private, corporate and public sectors.
  • In addition, the Head of Fund Development is responsible for contributing to all marketing & communication initiatives undertaken by the organisation, and to create awareness of and investment in the work of SOS Children’s Villages.

Qualifications And Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Fundraising, Marketing, Sales, Business Admin, International Business Development or the like.
  • A Higher Degree in a related field or verified experience in Fundraising in the NGO sector.

Experience

  • 10 years’ experience in Fundraising / Marketing / as a lead with 5 plus years managerial experience
  • 3-5 years in strategic planning
  • 4 – 5 years knowledge of various fundraising streams – local and intern

Knowledge Specific To The Position

  • Understanding NGO`s operations, best practices and market
  • Understanding of the Child and youth development principles (Acquire on the job).
  • Knowledge of programmes in an NGO
  • Good understanding of HR and
  • Strong negotiation, communication and networking
  • Good knowledge of Children`s rights (Acquire on the job).
  • Good Knowledge of the sales
  • Understanding of Quality Management
  • Knowledge of business and financial
  • Knowledge of relevant South African legislation
  • Good working knowledge and use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lync)
