Overview
The Head of Donor Relations will be Montana Pediatrics’ dedicated donor fundraising professional and responsible for maintaining organizational donor relationships, developing campaigns/events, and informing fundraising strategy, while escalating opportunities for pipeline development and maturation to the leadership team. Periodic travel across Montana may be required for donor engagement and funder meetings. This is a goal-driven position: specific fundraising targets are an explicit and central component of the role, are set annually with the CEO and leadership team, and form the primary basis for performance evaluation and bonus eligibility.
Montana Pediatrics is hiring quickly for this position and would like to have the ideal candidate on board by the end of September.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors and major gift prospects; build and manage a portfolio of relationships across Montana, building them into the overall Montana Pediatrics fundraising pipeline. Escalate donor relationships, grant opportunities, and partnership opportunities to the leadership team as appropriate.
- Represent Montana Pediatrics with funders, partners, and community stakeholders; attend and develop fundraising events and opportunities; and develop fundraising communications in coordination with marketing team and program staff.
- Contribute to fundraising strategy through insights from donor relationships and grant knowledge; collaborate on the execution of an annual fundraising plan.
- Support the maintenance of the donor database/CRM, gift acknowledgment processes, and the case for support; aid in managing an accurate pipeline and revenue reporting for the CEO and Board.
- Support and equip the CEO in providing Board of Directors materials and talking points for fundraising activities; lead and partner with development team and leadership on board-driven campaigns and community match initiatives.
- Maintain transparent communication and reporting back to the leadership team on donor and fundraising opportunities, presenting options and suggestions for moving forward, and working with the team to identify the next steps with funders.

Performance Goals
- Specific fundraising goals are a defined condition of this position. Year-one goals will be finalized with the CEO within the first 30 days and will include measurements such as:
- A first-year revenue target in new contributed income through individual gifts and donations, with quarterly milestones.
Performance against these goals will be reviewed quarterly with the CEO and formally at the end of the year. Goals for subsequent years, if the position continues, will follow the organization’s multi-year fundraising ramp.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of nonprofit fundraising, development, or closely related experience with a documented record of meeting revenue goals; experience in a supportive development role preferred.
- Demonstrated success in individual/major gift solicitation, campaign management, and donor systems.
- Strong writing and relationship-building skills; comfort representing an organization with funders and community partners.
- Working knowledge of donor CRM platforms and fundraising ethics and compliance (AFP standards, charitable solicitation requirements).
- Strong network of Montana communities and statewide relationships, with the ability to build on and identify connections that may lead to donor engagement, partnerships, and new funding opportunities.
- Knowledge of the Montana healthcare funding landscape is a plus.
- Commitment to Montana Pediatrics’ mission of expanding access to pediatric care.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $75,000 – $95,000 commensurate with experience, plus performance bonus eligibility as described above and benefits package including health, vision, dental, 401(k), flexible paid time off, and more.
- Bonus structure: This position is eligible for a performance bonus of up to 20% of annual salary, tied to achievement of the mutually agreed goals above and awarded through Montana Pediatrics’ normal compensation process. Consistent with the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethical Standards, compensation is not based on a percentage of funds raised.
Pay: $70,000.00 – $95,000.00 per year
