Head Trauma Support Projec
t is looking for a facilitator for one of our support groups.
Our long time facilitator for the “Making the Best of It” (MTBI) group is retiring and moving to Oregon. The MTBI group is attended by adults that have experienced a brain injury of any type (not just Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries). The purpose of this group is to allow discussion on questions about brain injuries, shared experiences, and strategies for dealing with ongoing issues related to brain injuries.
The role of the facilitator is to:
- Help those in attendance to have good discussions, ask questions of the participants, and help to guide everyone in attendance to feel they are in a safe space
- Optionally, prepare specific topics to teach about brain injury recovery strategies
- Optionally, invite guests to discuss topics related to living with a brain injury (art therapy, music therapy, other therapists, etc.)
- This would be your group to lead and manage as you believe will best meet the needs of the participants.
HTSP is looking for a facilitator that has training in therapy or counseling, experience with guiding group discussions, and has an understanding of the impact a brain injury has on an individual.
HTSP is a Sacramento based non-profit that provides support groups services for adults that have experienced a brain injury of any type, and for their caregivers. Support groups are held twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Thursday from 6:30 pm to 8 pm in rooms we rent from the Arden Church of the Nazarene (3337 Arden Way, Sacramento, near the intersection of Arden Way and Watt Ave). The
MTBI group has recently started including an online option to the in-person meetings (using Google Meet, which is similar to Zoom). We have student volunteers from local colleges that can provide technical assistance for the online portion of the meetings (if necessary).
We have also been holding an online only meeting on the third Thursday of each month. Our departing facilitator has offered to continue the third Thursday online meeting if our new facilitator would prefer to not conduct that meeting.
At the present time, there are between 5 to 10 people that attend meetings (for both the in person and online meetings).
HTSP offers a $100 stipend for each in-person meeting. We currently do not offer a stipend for the online only meeting.
