The Grants Accounting Manager oversees all financial aspects of grant management within an organization, ensuring compliance with funding regulations, timely and accurate financial reporting, and effective coordination with program and finance teams. This role is essential in maintaining fiscal responsibility and maximizing the impact of grant-funded programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Financial Oversight:
Monitor all financial aspects of awarded grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
Ensure the accurate and timely recording of grant-related transactions in accordance with GAAP and organizational policies.
Reconcile grant accounts and monitor grant spending to prevent cost overruns or underutilization.
Reporting & Compliance:
Prepare and submit financial reports to funders in accordance with grant agreements and deadlines.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and private grant regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance, OMB Circulars, FAR).
Assist with audits and provide documentation and explanations to auditors as needed.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with program managers, development staff, and finance to support budget planning, modifications, and reporting.
Provide training and guidance to staff on grant compliance and financial procedures.
System & Process Improvement:
Develop and maintain efficient grant tracking and reporting systems.
Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls and grant management practices.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
Experience:
5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, including at least 3 years in grant accounting or fund management.
Experience working with nonprofit, government, or academic institutions preferred.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of federal and private grant regulations and financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, FundEZ or ERP systems).
Advanced Excel skills; ability to analyze and present complex data clearly.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders simultaneously.
