Grant Research & Writing Intern
Fall 2026 September 1 – December 4, 2026
Academic internship for students seeking school credit through real-world nonprofit experience. Open to students 18+ enrolled in a college or university internship program. Students with specific hour or scheduling requirements are welcome to note their availability in the application.
Location: Remote
Hours: 8-15 hours/week, flexible based on school requirements
Languages: English required, Spanish strongly preferred
About HMA
Hopeless Music Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing tuition-free music and music business education to under-resourced youth ages 12-17 in Los Angeles, at zero cost to students and families.

Objective
Build practical skills in grant prospect research, proposal writing, and nonprofit fundraising strategy within a small, fast-moving organization.
Responsibilities May Include
- Research grant opportunities aligned with HMA’s mission and eligibility
- Draft and edit grant application materials and supporting documents
- Track application deadlines, requirements, and reporting obligations
- Support broader fundraising outreach (donors, sponsors) as needed
- Help prepare board meeting materials related to fundraising capacity
- Provide general administrative support as needed
Qualifications
- Strong written communication skills in English
- Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable with independent research
- Comfortable in a small, fast-moving startup-style environment
- Familiarity with Google Workspace
- Interest in grant writing, nonprofit development, or philanthropy
