ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation is the exclusive Fundraiser for the Grand Rapids Public Library. The Foundation supports and funds a variety of Grand Rapids Public Library programs and services.
The Library Foundation is an IRC § 501(c)(3) charitable organization and follows the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act for Charitable Giving. The foundation’s primary objective is to oversee the administration of endowment funds and other assets; and set investing and spending goals in accordance with donor instructions and board guidance.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation is currently seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accountant to support its Accounting and Finance operations. This role involves processing accounts/grants payable, preparing and analyzing financial reports, and supporting various Accounting and Finance operations as needed.
The ideal candidate should have an understanding of internal controls and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), along with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Reporting to and collaborating closely with the Foundation Manager, and the Board Treasurer, the Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the Foundation’s financial reporting.
This is a Part-Time NTE 20 hours per week position, that provides a true work/life balance for the professional with the right qualifications. The work is primarily completed remotely, but will require attendance at periodic in person meetings at 111 Library St. N.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Foundation Accountant will be responsible for managing core accounting functions and supporting operations. Key responsibilities include:
o Support the Foundation’s grantmaking functions, ensuring payments are disbursed in a timely manner.
o Review monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements; prepare other financial reports, analysis, and planning as requested.
o Access and update Quickbooks including preparation of journal entries monthly.
o Support the preparation of the annual fiscal budget.
o Assist in the preparation of the annual Granting Calculations and the supporting worksheets for prior year, current year and subsequent year grant payouts.
o Support preparation for Committee and Board of Trustee Meetings, compiling reports, charts, and other critical data.
o Execute special projects assigned by the Treasurer and Foundation Manager.
o Support processes related to preparing the Foundation’s annual tax returns, and independent audits, including the compilation of materials and information to be sent to the Foundation’s external accounting and audit firm.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate for the position will have 2+ years of professional experience in accounting. Experience in the non-profit sector is a plus. The successful candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail, an ability to organize complex information and systems, and an ability to work in a team environment.
Specifically, the successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills & abilities:
o A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; eligible to sit for CPA Exam (certification a plus).
o Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience with, or ability to learn and use other accounting software including QuickBooks Online.
o Prior experience supporting the general accounting, auditing, or finance functions of an organization, including accounts payable, general ledger, financial reporting, and analysis.
o Strong organizational skills and exceptional orientation to detail; ability to produce timely and accurate work products and deliverables.
o Effective analytical skills and ability to prepare clear financial reports and other materials that allow for strategic data interpretation.
o Solid integrity and a commitment to the vision, mission, and values of the Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation.
o Reliable professional maturity and sound judgment, including maintaining confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information.
COMPENSATION
The starting salary range for this position is $30 – $35 per hour, depending on education, prior experience and skills.
This is a part-time position. Hours will vary but the candidate can expect 10 hours/week; NTE 20 hours/week), with the majority of work completed from home.
