Seeking a CPA with nonprofit accounting experience. Strong competency in 2 CFR Part 200 Standards, knows how to tie operations into accounting, and can lead a team of AP, AR, accounting, and RCM professionals.

The Controller is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, grant compliance, and internal controls. This role will ensure financial integrity, transparency, and efficiency while supporting strategic decision-making for the organization’s growth and sustainability.

Duties:

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee all financial activities, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership and the Board of Directors.

Maintain financial records in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles (FASB 117 & 958).

Ensure accurate and timely closing of financial records.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the CFO and department heads.

Provide financial projections, cash flow analysis, and budget variance reports to guide leadership decisions.

Monitor program budgets, tracking restricted and unrestricted funds.

Grant & Compliance Management

Ensure compliance with grant funding requirements, tracking expenses and preparing financial reports for funders.

Manage audits and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (IRS 990, Uniform Guidance, etc.).

Stay updated on nonprofit financial regulations, ensuring best practices in compliance and risk management.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

Strengthen internal controls to safeguard financial assets and prevent fraud.

Optimize financial systems and workflows, identifying efficiencies for better reporting and accountability.

Support financial policies, procedures, and training for internal teams.

Leadership & Collaboration

Supervise and support accounting staff, ensuring high performance and professional development.

Collaborate with program managers and leadership to align financial strategy with organizational goals.

Present financial insights to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee as needed.
