Field Trip Nature Guide at Tryon Creek (age 18+) Referral
Interested in sharing your love of nature with youth? Learn how to lead groups of approximately 10 K-5th grade students and provide an hour-long educational field trip hike through Tryon Creek State Natural Area.
Field trip themes include adaptable animals, plant and tree , and watersheds. Specific time commitments are needed as field trips take place Mondays – Thursdays primarily in the spring and fall between 9:30 – 11:30 am. No prior experience is needed. Culturally informed training andprofessional developmentare provided.
Volunteers will learn about:
Culturally informed environmentaleducation.
Park habitat, watersheds, ethnobotany and the plants and animals of the park.
Group dynamics, and techniques in working with young children.
Trailside interpretation techniques.
Friends of Tryon Creek is a community-supported nonprofit started in 1970 by a group of dedicated park neighbors to preserve Tryon Canyon. Our mission in partnership with Oregon State Parks is to inspire every community to identify, cultivate or reclaim their relationship with nature in this cherished urban forest. Volunteer Nature Guides directly help us to connect youth to the park and the natural environment.
Opportunity Requirements:
Volunteers must be15 years of age or olderto participate in this opportunity.
