Fiduciary Tax Accountant
Cummings & Lockwood seeks a Fiduciary Accountant for our Naples Office with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
A Cummings & Lockwood Fiduciary Accountant responsibilities are not limited to the following and may be expanded through delegation by an Attorney or the Partner-in-Charge of the Naples office.
Although this position will sit in the Naples, Florida office the individual will be available to support any Cummings & Lockwood office.
Responsibilities
- Identify, collect, analyze, abstract, organize and maintain facts and documents, including wills and trust documents, in accordance with compliant legal practice and procedure
- Identify, collect, analyze, abstract, organize, maintain financial statements and spreadsheets relating to client investments; extract information for preparation of tax returns as needed
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and personnel
- Obtain and clarify information necessary to substantiate facts, identify documents and support legal actions
- Review estate planning documents, wills and trust agreements for preparation of income tax and excise tax returns
- Assist gathering asset and debt information for trusts and estates
- Organize and maintain information, records and documents supporting legal actions
- Assist analyzing legal proceedings to identify possible issues
- Develop, implement, maintain tracking and accounting systems for client investments facilitating preparation of U.S. trust tax returns
- Prepare U.S. federal and state estate tax returns (Form 706 and state equivalent as needed)
- Prepare U.S. federal and state fiduciary income tax returns for estates, testamentary and inter vivos trusts (Form 1041 and state equivalent as needed)
- Prepare individual and non-profit organization U.S. tax returns (Form 1040, Form 709 and Form 5227)
- Prepare trust and estate probate and fiduciary accountings
- Prepare related filings such as extensions of time to file for all accounting and returns
- Address IRS notices and resolve pending tax issues
- Track deadlines assuring returns and accountings are filed timely or extended when applicable
Desire Qualifications:
- Degree in Accounting
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a tax Fiduciary Accountant
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Estate Val Software (EVP), ProSystem FX, FastTax and GEMS
- Knowledge of accounting and trust procedures
- Ability to develop, organize and maintain electronic data collection
- Knowledge of trust and estate procedures and trial balance sheets
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to details
- Able to prioritize, multitask and manage time effectively
Compensation:
- $80,000.00 – $100,000.00
- Dependent upon experience

- Fiduciary Accountant is an exempt role, not eligible for overtime
- Annual Paid Time Off (PTO) of twenty-five (25) days the first year and thirty (30) days on the first anniversary
- Thirty-seven and a half (37½) hour work week
