The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in community-based organizations and programs to alleviate poverty and promote community growth. It supports youth and community services through contracts with various organizations across NYC, managing federal and city funds for innovative programs that benefit youth and communities. DYCD also administers federal CSBG-funded programs aimed at helping low-income individuals attain self-sufficiency.
The Fatherhood Initiative focuses on reconnecting fathers with their children and developing parenting skills by encouraging engagement, providing material support, and helping fathers access needed benefits.
Position:
Fatherhood Program Specialist
Under supervision, with some independence, the Specialist manages a portfolio of Fatherhood programs, represents DYCD in city initiatives, and coordinates campaigns and events.
Program Oversight and Compliance
Review and approve program plans
Conduct reviews and site visits, providing feedback
Assist contractors with work improvement and ensure compliance
Evaluate reports and monitor program performance
Report to supervisors and suggest improvements
Stakeholder Engagement and Community Outreach
Engage with community groups, officials, and at events
Represent DYCD at meetings and public forums
Support community initiatives and address borough issues
Meetings, Coordination, and Event Planning
Coordinate provider meetings, ensuring attendance and documentation
Organize campaigns and events, including weekends/evenings
Training, Research, and Support
Research best practices in fatherhood programs
Provide training and technical support to practitioners
Learn and train on DYCD CONNECT system
Administrative and Reporting
Prepare reports and summaries
Maintain program goals and troubleshoot issues
Support additional projects as needed
Minimum Qualifications
Either a bachelor’s degree with 2 years of community work or equivalent experience, or a high school diploma with 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 1 year at a similar level.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of NYC contracting processes
Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple projects
Experience with target populations and human services programs
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Additional Information
