Purpose
Arizona Conservation Corps (AZCC) engages motivated young adults, ages 18-30, to complete challenging and impactful conservation and service projects throughout the western United States. AZCC crews serve in a variety of National Parks, National Forests, and other public areas. Projects may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazardous fuels reduction, historic preservation, chemical and mechanical invasive plant removal, and local environmental service projects.
Projects may vary with seasonality and safety concerns.

- Invasive species management, including pesticide application
- Habitat restoration
- Fence installation/repair
- Land Management Inventory and Mapping
- Fire fuels reduction
- National Disaster Relief for up to 30 days at a time
- Community service
Description Of Duties
AZCC Ameri Corps members serve a term of National Service in the State of Arizona and across the Southwest on professionally supervised crews. Members work in all weather conditions on a variety of conservation and habitat restoration projects. It is a field program where members camp multiple days near a project site. Members are expected to complete project work and practice appropriate safety procedures, including safe use and maintenance of hand and power tools.
Participants must also be willing to be an active member of a team of up to seven individuals.
Program Expectations
- Commitment – participants must commit to all aspects of the program, including projects, education, training, and crew activities.
- Safety – all participants must participate in a culture of safety and adhere to program policies.
- Professionalism – participants must follow AZCC policies, maintain professional boundaries, and represent AZCC appropriately.
- Teamwork – members must engage in collaboration, respect others, and help make group decisions.
- Technology – projects are often in remote locations; use of technology is limited.
- Substance Free – participants must refrain from alcohol and drugs while in the program.
Qualifications
- United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent; if not completed, must obtain it before receiving the education award
- Agree to provide information for eligibility and complete a National Service Criminal History Check
Physical Requirements
May require periodic overnight travel, non‑traditional hours, ability to move across varied terrain, use of tools, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Some positions may require driving an organizational vehicle.
Time Requirements
- Typical schedule:
Tuesday to Tuesday; exact schedule may vary. Lunch breaks not counted towards service.
- Usually 8 days on / 6 days off schedule. Time off not permitted during hitches.
- Members may be called to national, state, or local service events during term.
- 3‑week break from December 9, 2026 – January 4, 2027; no project hitches and no living stipend or benefit during those weeks.
Orientation And Training
- Orientation covering Ameri Corps prohibitions and unallowable activities.
- Training on Wilderness First Aid, Leave No Trace, outdoor living, crew culture, and goal setting.
- Specialized equipment instruction (herbicide, crosscut saw, chainsaw) as needed.
- Ongoing on‑the‑ground skills training throughout the term.

Housing
AZCC is an independent, non‑residential program. Members must provide their own outdoor gear and equipment. AZCC provides tools, protective gear, crew meal budget, and project transportation.
Evaluation And Reporting
Performance is evaluated by completed hours, satisfactory assignment completion, and other criteria communicated at the start of service. Reporting includes bi‑weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
