Overview
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and mission-driven guidance for SOAR dedicated to empowering individuals with development disabilities. This role ensures high-quality programs, sustainable growth, strong community partnerships, and a culture of dignity, inclusion, and respect. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, families, and community stakeholders to advance the organization’s vision, mission and long-term impact.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Direction
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a clear strategic plan aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
- Ensure that SOAR policies are consistently maintained by the Board, committees, and staff. Responsible for public accountability of the organization and implementation of policies adopted by the Board.
- Foster an inclusive, person-centered culture that prioritizes the needs and rights of individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Provide oversight with integrity for the efficiency and growth of all programs to include the Adult Health and Wellness Program; the SOAR Swim Program, Special Olympics Coastal Georgia and any special projects hosted by SOAR.
- Ensure leadership, professional development, support and evaluation to staff and other stakeholders.
- Inform and support the Board of Directors in developing and implementing an overall risk management strategy that includes business practices, consumer safety, and ongoing liability assessment.
- Assist the board chair with the facilitation of Executive Committee and Board of Director meetings by preparing agendas and reports with the Board Chair, to include financial, program and committee updates.
- Ensure all programs meet regulatory standards, best practices, program evaluation and the evolving needs of participants.
- Oversee program and staff evaluations, based on predetermined annual goals and program effectiveness.
- Consult and collaborate with the Special Olympics Coordinator and Management Team regarding operations of Special Olympics Coastal Georgia.
- Effectively communicate using a variety of sources to reach stakeholders.
Financial/Fundraising
- Develop, maintain and amend the proposed annual budget in collaboration with the Board and finance team.
- Ensure strong financial controls, compliance, and reporting by closely working with the finance team.
- Lead fundraising efforts, including solicitation of major gifts, special events, direct mail and community partnerships both corporate and individual.
- Prepare all grants, reports, and grant presentations. Review and adapt existing grants already receiving as needed and identify new grant opportunities.
- Ensure a robust data collection plan is in place using quantitative and qualitative data to report impact of programming to all stakeholders.
- Make recommendations to the Board for hiring, salary, and salary increases for staff.
Operations & Compliance
- Oversee daily operations, including facilities, technology, and administrative systems.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to developmental disability services and nonprofit governance.
- Oversee management of the SOAR office by accurately maintaining and updating records, policies, procedures and manuals.
- Ensure volunteer in-take procedures are in place to include registration, criminal background checks, training and a timely communication system.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Speak confidently and authentically serving as the public face of the organization, representing its mission with professionalism and passion.
- Build strong relationships with families, community partners, funders, and advocacy groups.
- Promote awareness of the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, social services, business administration, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in Business Management or related field; Nonprofit preferred.
- Demonstrated success in organizational management and program development.
- Highly proficient in relevant social media and computer software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Awareness of Medicaid waivers, state service systems, and regulatory requirements.

Reporting
- This position reports to the Executive Committee, led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
- This is a full-time salaried position requiring additional evening and weekend work.

Pay: $57,000.00 – $62,000.00 per year
