Executive Director/CEO (PT salaried) Jobs in Tucson, AZ at Friends of Aphasia
The Executive Director/CEO of Friends of Aphasia will serve as the strategic leader, primary administrator and public face of the organization, responsible for driving the mission of improving the lives of individuals and families affected by aphasia. The ED will oversee all operations, with specific emphasis on financial management, legal compliance, fundraising, human resources management and outreach. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to the mission, strong leadership skills, and the ability to engage and inspire various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:Leadership and Strategy:
In concert with the Board of Directors develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns with the organization’s mission and goals.
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish and execute short-term and long-term objectives.
Provide responsive leadership to guide the organization’s growth and impact in the community.
Represent Friends of Aphasia in the community, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, and community leaders.
Program Development and Management:
Oversee and monitor the development, implementation, and evaluation of all programs and services, ensuring they meet the needs of individuals with aphasia and their families.
Work with the Clinical Director and volunteers to ensure high-quality, evidence-based services are delivered effectively.
Identify opportunities for new partnerships that align with the organization’s mission.
Fundraising and Development:
Lead fundraising efforts, including the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising plan to secure diverse funding sources (e.g., individual donors, grants, corporate sponsorship, events).
Cultivate relationships with major donors and oversee donor stewardship activities.
Work with the Board development committee to plan and execute fundraising events, campaigns, and appeals.
Financial and Operational Management:
Oversee the financial health of the organization, including budget development, financial forecasting, and reporting.
Ensure that Friends of Aphasia operates within its budget, follows GAAP practices, maintains internal fiscal controls to prevent fraud, and meets all legal and regulatory requirements.
Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure transparent financial and legal compliance, reporting, and accountability, such as annual development and submission of IRS Form 990, Arizona Corporation Commission filings, and intermittent voluntary audits.
Staff Leadership and Development:
Lead, mentor, and manage the organization’s staff, contractors, volunteers and university interns, fostering a positive, supportive and collaborative work environment.
Oversee human resources functions, including hiring, payroll, performance evaluations, dismissal and professional development.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and mission-driven work.
Maintain complete and accurate HR files.
Community Outreach and Advocacy:
In concert with the Clinical Director, identify and participate in community events which further the organization’s mission, bring awareness to aphasia, and expand the organization’s donor and volunteer bases.
Act as the organizational spokesperson for media interviews.
Enhance the organization’s public image to expand interest and support.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, public administration, healthcare, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years C-suite level leadership experience in a nonprofit, government agency or healthcare-related organization, with a proven track record in fundraising, organizational oversight and compliance, and staff management.
Skills:
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking abilities.
Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with donors, partners, and community leaders.
Financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial management, and reporting.
Passion for the mission of Friends of Aphasia and a commitment to serving the needs of individuals with aphasia and learning more about the disorder and its effects.
Compensation:
$50,000/year (for 25 hrs/week)
Benefits include 8 holidays per year and two weeks (10 days) paid vacation, plus two weeks set paid leave that includes the Christmas and New Years holidays.
