The Moran Company is pleased to partner with thePiano Technicians Guildto recruit the organization’s next Executive Director.
The Piano Technicians Guild was founded in 1958 from the merger of two separate organizations, the National Association of Piano Tuners (NAPT), and the American Society of Piano Technicians (ASPT). Since then, PTG has been the world’s premier source of expertise in piano service and technology, representing more than 100 years of collective knowledge, over 3,300 global members, and the industry’s only recognized piano certification program.
The mission of PTG is to promote the industry’s highest possible standards by providing members with opportunities forprofessional development, recognizing and promoting technical competency through examinations, and advancing the interests of each member.
PTG has an annual budget of $1.5 million, 6 full-time employees, and headquarters in Kansas City, Kansas. The organization provides six key services:
Maintains and supports the professional standards for becoming a certified piano technician.
Acts as a repository of information and training resources for the career field.
Facilitates training and certification through member services including local chapter programming and meetings, publications, and an annual convention.
Promotes its members and their profession.
Provides members with a way to connect with other professionals in their field.
Maintains acentral locationwhich houses a training facility and museum.
The Executive Director providesleadershiptoward the achievement of PTG’s philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives and is responsible for the general, day-to-day administration of the organization. The Executive Director reports to and works with the Executive Board in developing strategies that support the mission of PTG, developing and implementing the strategic goals and objectives of PTG, and enabling the Board to effectively fulfill its governance function.
The annualsalary rangefor this position is expected to be $115,000 – $125,000 plus benefits which include health, dental & vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan, paid holidays, PTO, andflexible work hours.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree; an advanced degree such as an MBA and/or a designation such as Certified Association Executive is preferred. Five or more years of progressive management experience is required, preferably in a membership-based non-profit association with a focus on professionaleducationand designation programs.
